FSSC Version 5.1
The Foundation FSSC 22000 has published version 5.1 of its
FSSC 22000 certification scheme on 3rd November 2020.
The main reasons for an updated version are compliance with
the latest benchmarking requirements of the Global Food
Safety Initiative (GFSI) and strengthened requirements for
Certification Body (CB) performance as part of continuous
improvement.

Expectations
The new FSSC 22000 V5.1’s key changes include requirements specific
to:
• Multi-site certification.
• Product design & development.
• Food safety culture.
Organizations who are certified to FSSC 22000 V5 are expected to
comply with these changes in their next upgrading audit.

Food Safety Culture
The GFSI food safety culture requirements specify elements related to:
1.Employee communication.
2.Employee training.
3.Employee performance measurement.
The Foundation has released a guidance document to demonstrate
how these food safety culture requirements are being met.

FSSC Version 5.1
Purpose
Part II describe the auditable scheme requirements to be implemented
in order to achieve and maintain the certification for FSSC 22000 .
The main reasons for an updated version are compliance with the latest
benchmarking requirements of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)

For organizations who are certified to FSSC 22000 version 5, you shall
refer to the changes defined in the FSSC 22000 V5.1 scheme document,

A. In addition to clause 7.1.6 Control of externally provided processes, products or services of ISO
22000:2018, external laboratory services used should be ISO 17025/NABL certified.
B. For food chain categories C,D,I,G and K additional requirements applies to clause ISO
22000:2018 7.1.6
Documented procedure for procurement in emergency situations to ensure that the product
still conform to specified requirement and supplier has been evaluated,
C. For food chain categories C,D,I,G and K additional requirements applies to clause ISO/TS
220002-1 clause 9.2 (selection and management of suppliers) and ISO/TS 220002-4 clause 4.6
The organization shall establish and maintain a review process ( quarterly review /MRM etc.) for
product specifications to ensure continued compliance with food safety, legal and customer
requirements.

Product labelling
In addition to clause 8.5.1.3 of ISO 22000:2018
• Finished product are labelled according to all applicable statutory and
regulatory requirements of country specific including allergen and
customer requirements.
• Incase the product is unlabeled such as bulk selling then all relevant
product information shall be made available to ensure the safe use of
food by the customer or consumer
