2. Introduction
Due to changes in the life style, sedentary works and food habits
people are unable to follow Dinacharya & Ritucharya which may lead
to many diseases and most of the diseases may not be life threatening
but hamper day to day life & human productivity.
Avabahuka is one among those diseases which result in depletion in
functions of shoulder joint & is widely observed in the present time.

3. The vitiated Vata Dosha localizes around the Amsha Pradesha
and causes Shoshana of Amsha Bandha as well as Akunchana of
Sira and Kandara of the Amsha Pradesha which leads to Sthamba
and Bahu praspanda.

4. Objectives of the study
To study Avabahuka, Frozen shoulder and other related
clinical conditions in detail.
To compare the efficacy of Ayurvedic & Allopathic drugs in the
management of Avabahuka.
To find out an effective economic, easily available curative
therapy for the treatment of Apabahuka.

5. Objective Parameter :
Restriction in the movement of shoulder joint
along with tenderness on palpation.
Difficulty in lifting, stretching, extending of
the arm.
Pain, stiffness, swelling & heaviness in
shoulder region.
Pain when trying to sleep on the affected
shoulders.
Subjective Parameters:
Clinical features of Apabahuka such as
Amsha Sandhi Shula.
Amsha Sandhi Graha (Stiffness of shoulder
joint).

6. Inclusion Criteria
Subjects presenting with classical clinical features of Avabahuka
(Frozen Shoulder, other related clinical conditions).
Subjects of either sex between the age group of 40 - 60 years.
Exclusion Criteria
Auto immune disorders like SLE, RA etc.
Post Traumatic injuries.
Dislocation of Shoulder joint.
Uncontrolled metabolic disorders like Diabetes mellitus.
Age below 40 and above 60 years group.
Subjects having fracture of shoulder.

7. Treatment
Avabahuka being a Vatavyadhi, general principles of
treatment of Vata vyadhi is also applicable, Chikitsa Sutra of
Avabahuka includes the drugs that is capable of resolving the
Samprapti of Avabahuka they are Abhyanga, Upanaha Sweda,
Baluka swedana, Nasya, Nasapana, Uttarabhaktika
Snehapana, Rakthamokshana, Shaman aushadhi Prayoga etc.

8. Ayurvedic drugs –
Mahayograj guggulu 2 tabs BD after meal
Shallaki tablet 2 tabs BD after meal
Panchguna Taila (Triphala, nimb patra, til tail, mom,
madhuchist, gandhviroja, shilaras, ral, guggulu, equalyptus oil
etc.)
“For 3 regular months”

9. Exercise & Swedana –
Hand rotating exercise one with free hand & other along with
light weight object on the hand.
Baluka swedan 3- 4 times a day for 15 mins.

10. Result & Conclusion
Good response of Ayurvedic drugs are seen i.e. patient reporting
more than 75% of relief within 3 months of above treatment & patient is
recommended to continue the exercise for more time.
So it is concluded that Ayurvedic drugs & swedan technique are very
efficient in treating frozen shoulder as compared to other medical
streams.
