Program to Movement
Amicus, The Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s Corporate Volunteer Program
✤ To be known as the leader in corporate philanthropy
in Chicago.
TheVision
The Mission
✤ Create a corporate volunteer program to harness the
energy of the members and staff of the exchange into
the community doing good.
The Results
✤ A thriving successful program that won a national
award in its second year.!
✤ Amicus became a movement.
✤ HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Building a Movement
✤ Get people excited and enrolled!
✤ Presentations to recruit volunteers.!
✤ Invitation to be a part of a “cool club.”!
✤ Create fun projects and a team spirit!
✤ One monthly group project with a different non-profit. !
✤ Amicus put everyone on equal ground. There was no us vs.
them, there was a WE.
Building a Movement
✤ Grow the program!
✤ While still a staff as one, in year two of the program, grew
from 1 project to 10 projects a month.!
✤ Formed partnerships with specific non-profits and create
programs there each month.!
✤ Identified loyal volunteers and invited them to be leaders of
their own projects.!
✤ Trained and recognized volunteer leaders.
Building a Movement
✤ Grow the program (Cont.)!
✤ Created one major event each year as a recruitment
opportunity. !
✤ Rewarded and acknowledged volunteers. !
✤ Fostered collaboration by forming a steering
committee to bring new ideas and opportunities to
the program.
Building a Movement
✤ Give it away!
✤ The program started with one person leading.!
✤ When the volunteers took ownership of the
program as well, it grew and took on a life of it’s
own.
✤ AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED?
Impact Beyond ourWildest Dreams
✤ Excellence in Corporate Community Service Award from the Points
of Light Foundation!
✤ Increased press for the program!
✤ Speaking engagements!
✤ Collaborations with other Chicago companies!
✤ Workshops to train corporations and non-profits to work together!
✤ Board membership on Chicago Corporate Volunteerism Council
