This document discusses the importance of emotional intelligence for leadership. It argues that traditional views of leadership based on being bold, brave, tough, and resolute do not fit the needs of today's workforce. Modern employees expect autonomy, inclusion, and opportunities for growth. Effective leaders now need skills like self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and building relationships. Leaders must apply emotional intelligence to create an organizational climate that promotes innovation, performance, and lasting relationships.
The document provides 10 tips from an executive communications coach, Nora Vitz Harrison, for totally rocking a presentation. The tips include being succinct, using visuals instead of just PowerPoint, engaging the audience like an actor would, getting their attention in an unexpected way, using specific examples, making it personal, presenting with confidence, continuing to learn from other sources, telling stories, and communicating with passion.
The document discusses the decline of manners and civility in modern society, citing issues like increased anger, foul language, disrespect towards authority, and the normalization of inappropriate behavior. It also provides tips and advice for practicing good etiquette through things like having polite conversations, making positive first impressions, dressing appropriately, and using respectful language. The overall message is that social etiquette and courtesy are still important for cultivating respect and maintaining a civil society.

Keynote: Beyond Data: Building A Deeper UnderstandingMediaPost
Businesses often use the little black box of data to help with a tactical play in a specific problem. It feels good when it works. Nothing else seems to matter ... but then they're lost in situations where they don't have it. But when a business builds a genuine, deeper understanding of its consumers it gains an advantage every day and across every play it makes. Drawing from his experience leveraging data at one of the world’s largest music publishers and now a leading book brand, David Boyle shows the importance of moving away from thinking of data as a little black box and on to building a deeper understanding of consumers as people throughout your business.

Implicit bias refers to unconscious associations people make between groups of people and stereotypes. The video uses the analogy of peanut butter and jelly to illustrate how implicit biases are formed unconsciously through people's experiences and environment. While having implicit biases does not necessarily make one racist, it is important to recognize implicit biases exist and work to address them in order to avoid unfairly associating or treating people differently based on group membership. One way people can combat implicit biases is by becoming aware of their own "blind spot bias" and taking steps to reduce prejudices.
