Abbie Hoffman was an American activist born in 1936 who helped organize many anti-war protests in the 1960s. He co-founded the Youth International Party, or "Yippies", and organized high-profile demonstrations like the attempt to levitate the Pentagon and protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Hoffman became known for his creative acts of political theater and protests aimed at capturing media attention to further the anti-war movement. He faced legal issues related to his activism and struggled with mental health issues later in life, dying by suicide in 1989.
