place different sea life pictures on the A.R. board. Stop by and check out the board across from the

Geography Bee District Results
Congratulations to Colten Mack the winner of the Aleutians East Borough School District National
Geographic Bee. He participated in a hard fought battle with students from Nelson Lagoon and King
Cove. First place went to Colten Mack (SDP), Peyton Kuzakin (KCV) earned second, and Sherman
McNelley (NLG) earned third.

Sherman and Felicia Johnson participated in their preliminary Nelson Lagoon School Bee just prior to
the District Bee with Sherman winning first for his school and Felicia earning second. King Cove and
Sand Point schools held their school bees prior to the events with their district bee representatives
earning first place. Congratulations again to all of this year's Geography Bee participants.

Colten Mack took his written exam to qualify to participate in the State National Geographic Bee, on
Wednesday, January 13, 2010. The top 100 scores on the qualifying test will move on to the State,
National Geographic Bee. When Colten earns his place to participate in this bee, he and a parent will
travel to participate in the state bee on April 9, 2010. At this event Mr. Mack has the opportunity
to earn up to 100 dollars and a trip to Washington D.C. for first place. If he is successful at the
state level, Colten Mack will be able to participate in the National Geographic Bee, May 25-26. At
the National Bee he has the opportunity to earn up to a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime
membership to National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Congratulations again to all of our school National Geographic Bee winners and a special
congratulations and good luck to Colten Mack. I encourage you all to please continue your studies of
the our world places, history, and culture to increase your chances of success in next year's National
Geographic Bee challenge. Happy travels in your studies.
