The New World Trade Center
The building began its construction on April 27, 2006. It is estimated to be finished by 2011.
November 18, 2006-  400 cubic yards of concrete were poured on to the foundation of the Freedom Tower. December 17, 2006-  A   ceremony was held in Battery Park City, the public was invited to sign a 30 foot steel beam. December 19, 2006-  The beam was the first to be installed and was welded on to the Freedom Tower's base.   By the end of February 2007-   The tower’s footings and foundations were nearly complete. The cost is estimated to be around  $3 billion. Approximately  $1 billion  of the cost is coming from insurance money. The State of New York is expected to provide  $250 million  towards construction costs. The Port Authority said they would finance another  $1 billion  through bonds.

When the Freedom Tower is completed, it will be the  third tallest  free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere.
The Freedom Tower will taper into eight tall isosceles triangles,  forming a perfect octagon  at its center.  The plan for the tower also includes  2.6 million square feet  of office space, tenant amenity spaces, world-class restaurants, below-grade retail, and access to the PATH, subway, and World Financial Center. Three other high-rise office buildings  plus a residential tower are planned to go along Greenwich Street next to the Freedom Tower. They will surround the  World Trade Center Memorial . The surrounding area will also be home to a museum, highlighting many of the different aspects of  the past and future  World Trade Centers.
