changing the world one gift at a timeBy: Diane Alvarez
Our Mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves and undergirds precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills.
Our Vision is to enable our members to be proactive to benefit from the strength of a larger community, changing the world one gift at a time.MISSION
I have a personal connection with Freecycle because my family and I reorganize every year. We go through our closet and garage and donate what we don’t wear or need to either the Salvation Army or Goodwill.PERSONAL CONNECTION
ValuesWe give to the community. We receive from our local communities. We collect clutter to keep out of landfills to make larger communities.
We are a grassroots and nonprofit movement of people who are giving and getting stuff for free in our local communities. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer and membership is free.SPECIFIC PROGRAMS
INPUTSAs follows, its what is needed for the Freecycle program:Funding for free public forum for our membersDonations help with expenses to keep educating local communities about recycling and reusing items Help keep tons of good items out of the local landfills.
OUTPUTSRecycling can help with the environment to make your local community larger.Reusing good items helps save the local landfills from tons of clutter.Helps families that are in need of clothing or furniture.
To become a member you need to go to their website at www.freecycle.org and input your city and state to find where in your community you can volunteer or give donations. You may donate online thru PayPal and your donation is tax deductible.PROCESS
OUTCOMESFreecycle gives the members access to see what is being given away and what people want.Helps illuminate clutter in the landfills.Families are that are in need of some clothing or items go to there local groups.
Sometimes it is a hassle to get rid of semi-old and new items and you usually would just put it out on trash day but with Freecycle you can just donate your items and someone else is willing to make use of it. There may be times that you really don’t want to get throw away a certain item but are willing to swap and item for another item and with this program you can do that, hassle free. No throwing away in trash.Specific Need/Problem in Community
The Shuttleworth Foundation invests in initiatives and individuals who challenge the status quo and positively contributes to change. And with Freecycle members are able to contribute to changing their communities by donating and giving to the community. Also to strengthen your local community with generosity and helping the environment.Shuttleworth Foundation
We utilize local communities to acquire reusable and recycle items to give away.We have to explain to the community that by donating their unwanted clutter it boons the landfills by keeping out tons clutter.Critical Action
