This document discusses the digital divide, which refers to the gap in access to information and communication technologies between developed and developing countries. Some key statistics are provided that show large disparities, such as developing countries having 4 times fewer mobile subscribers and 8 times fewer internet users than developed countries. Within countries as well, there are divides between urban and rural areas, with ICT access being much lower in poor and rural regions. The digital divide is partly due to lack of infrastructure but also high relative costs of ICT in developing nations.
