Confirmation
Herebywe confirm, that Mr. Aditya Mahesh, born on 30"" July 1990 in Coimbatore (India),
worked as a trainee in our department for »Mathematical Methods in Dynamics and Durability« at the
Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics, from 1" March 2014 until 30'^June 2014.
The work of Mr. Mahesh isembedded into a project caliedVMC for trucks which is partially funded by
the truck manufacturers DAF, Daimler, MAN, Scania and Volvo. An important part of this project Is the
caiculation of a speed profile given a route, some simple vehicle characteristics and some parameters
describing the driver behaviour. A basic Implementation of a corresponding algorithm was provided by
ITWM, which had to be analysed with respect to various properties. The resulting accelerations and its
distributionof amplitudes (ränge pair histogram) are of major importance. The provided approach uses
a fixed time stepping scheme, where the individual time Steps may be performed either by PID
Controller type approach or a simpler approach. In any case, the algorithm can be adjusted bya set of
Parameters. The task of Mr. Mahesh was to get familiar with the VMC project and to study the
influence of these parameters on the results and find a good setting for different driving manoeuvers
which should be stable wrt. varying step length.
The following steps have been included
• getting familiar with the MATLAB Implementation and the basic test example
• construction of a simplified example and comparlson of the ITWM approach with an approach
implemented in the Software IPG TruckMaker
• optimizing PID parameters and studying the stability of the solution wrt. modifications of the
time Step size
• documentation
