Transitional Employment Program: The Clubhouse
The clubhouse houses about 35– 50 members a daily, the amount varies daily. The clubhouse has
the control over who it accepts membership from. Membership has no time limits and it's voluntary.
It is open to everyone unless that person poses a significant and current treat to the safety of the
Clubhouse. There are no contracts, time schedules or rules given to members to enforce
participation in clubhouse activities. They all have equal access to every Clubhouse opportunity
regardless of diagnosis or level of functioning. Members are given the right to reenter the Clubhouse
after any length of absence, unless their poses a threat to other members or staff. The clubhouse
offer an effective reach out system to all members.
A normal work day at the Clubhouse consists of members and staff together working side by side.
This does not include medication, treatment or therapy programs. Members are not paid nor given
any incentives for their work. The Clubhouse is open five days a week and a normal day parallels
the typical working day. The work is designed to help members regain self–worth, purpose and
confidence.
The Clubhouse offers a Transitional Employment program; it provides members to work on job
placements in the labor market. Members who are interested must meet a few basic criteria

The Tuckman Model of Group Development has 5 stages: Forming, Storming, Norming, and
Adjourning (Maples, 2008). During the first session of MOP, everyone was tasked with forming
their own small project team. The very first class workshop activity involved meeting two new
people and introducing one of them to the entire class. The aim of the activity was to indirectly
assess who we would want to be in a team with, based on our perceptions of a person's behaviour,
values, and work ethic. Most people would want to be in a team with people similar to them on a
surface level (age, gender, ethnicity) and on a deeper level (personality, attitudes, believes, values)
(Liang, Shih, & Chiang, 2015). We were free to choose whoever we wanted in our team under the
condition that the team we form is diverse.
My team members are Sara, Wei, Rijuta, Rohit, and Craig. We are one of the more, if not most,
culturally diverse groups in the class because we hail from China, India, New Zealand and the
Philippines. When looking at our majors, there was not much diversity because five of us are in
Marketing and only Rohit is in Global Business. Only four of us in Marketing have been classmates
in the previous term and prior to this term, we never experienced working together as a team. Sara

and formal leadership should be taken into consideration during the selection process. Team size is
the "most fundamental starting point for choosing team members" (Polzer, 2003, p.7). It is not
always the more, the better in this case. The leader during selection should consider the task they
need to accomplish, the skills of the members, and the deadline of a task. As an example, it will be
easier to relay information to five people than twelve people as it could take twice the effort in

I'll never forget the night I noticed my sister was in serious trouble. It had been building for about a
week. She stopped going to classes. She wouldn't leave her room. She slept all day long. She kept
saying she wanted to be alone.

selecting assignments. Once the assignment screen opens the user will have to populate all the

used allocate funds for the move, the assignment action reason which is a two digit code
acknowledging how the member was selected. The code could be anything from volunteer,

projected personnel accounting system code which is a nine digit number that identifies the new
base the member will be going to and the report no later than date is loaded. The report no later than

the South and City College Enterprise Day. We were aimed to raise money for Teenager Cancer
Trust by selling handmade crafts. Below, I am going to reflect about my own experience and about
how the team worked together to achieve our goals. Team roles and problem solving techniques will
be evaluated and suggestions for improvement will be given as we have now learned from this
experience.
1. Team roles
Everyone in the team adopted different roles according to their skills and personalities. The roles we
played were not agreed by them team but just came according to each one 's abilities. The team had
functional diversity, that is, different skills that put together allowed the team to achieve its goals
(West, 2012). This also provided the team with different ideas to share and achieve the best
outcomes (Sohmen, 2013). One member of the team was a resource investigator (Belbin, 1991–
2006). She creates contacts during the fair and explored new selling opportunities, engaging people

Introduction The six students in the Asian Learning Center had the opportunity to intern at
Neighborhood House. Each of students was given the privilege to work in different departments.
The six students were able to work in the Food Market together to assist clients with assessments in

share similar experiences with clients; the six students decided to focus their research project on the

Our next question was, "Is it common that there are people within your tribe that do not (can not or
choose not to) act upon the values of silence and listening to others?" We asked this to gain an
insight into how these values were demonstrated throughout each tribe, rather than within our
interviewees individual lives. The Sioux member answered that nearly all of the members of their
tribe practices these values within their daily interactions, aside from small children who are still
within the learning process. The Navajo member answered that the it's uncommon for individuals to
stray from these values, that they are strictly adhered to within his tribe. In contrast, the Cherokee
member shared that it's not common for people to violate these norms and expectations within a
formal setting. For example, these norms and expectations would always be followed when talking
to an elder, someone of importance within the tribe, within school, or when speaking to someone
you are unfamiliar with. However, these values become less strict within familiar and comfortable
settings, such as with friends or at home. This question provided an interesting contrast for the

One solution, for the primary problem of Mike missing meetings and being left out of the group,
would be to explain the situation to Professor Sandra. Christine could have approached Sandra to
explain that Mike had been very distant and not cooperating with meetings. There are limited things
that Sandra could have done; however at least she would have been informed and understood. The
pros to approaching the professor could have been to possibly get Mike on the right track and take
the responsibility off the team. The professor could have made arrangements or provided guidance
for Mike if he explained his problems about class, work, and his girlfriend early on. They may have
been granted an extension or could have had a group meeting during class. The cons of this solution
would be that Mike would think Christine was a tattle tale and he could get angry at the group and
become more distant. Professor Sandra could have also told the group to find a way to work it out
and/or pick up his slack. A group project means that each member performs their part, so

This paper summarizes my reflections of my experiences in the Leadership Simulation course.
Issues, challenges, and solutions from my experiences are presented below from the perspective as a
member of the Social Services sector and a representative of the City Council. Furthermore,
reflections are also described in a team setting and as a leader.
Member of the Social Services Sector
My overall experience in the Leadership Simulation course was great. The group work and
collaboration required in this course was unlike any course experience I have had in the past. I
thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and working with the other Social Service Sector members,
Karen, Crystal, Courtney, and Christopher, and I believe that forming a personal and professional
relationship with the sector members played a huge role in our interactions as a sector.
Strengths
A prominent strength of the Social Services sector was our sector structure and organization. Group
structure determines the effectives of the group (Borgatta, Bales, & Couch, 1954) and I believe from
the first Collaborate session, the Social Service sector established a structure. This was achieve by
determining several group expectations that all members agreed upon, including scheduled
meetings, topics for our Collaborate sessions, methods and frequency of communication, and sector
deadlines for task write–ups and posting protocols on our Blackboard discussion board for review.

Explain As a group leader, I have a myriad of ethical responsibilities to the group members,

want to summarize with the group what they learned about the challenges of being HIV positive
while encouraging them to use the skills they learned in the group outside of the group, while

The Emancipation of a Member of Congress
Our elected officials are sent to Washington to represent the people. In the case of the house they are
there to represent the people of a certain district. Senators are supposed to represent citizens of a
certain state. They currently have no limits on how long they can serve. There are many faces in
Congress that have been there for over 20 years. I intend to explain why having the same people
hold the same office is not healthy for the average American citizen. The original intent of the
Constitution was to limit government and the self–serving interests that become tyrannical by their
very nature. The fact that the founders did not include limiting terms for Congress appears to be a
great oversight. The reason for this is simple. When a person was chosen to serve during the time of
the founders it was considered both and honor and a burden. The founders overlooked term limits
because at the time it was not an issue as it was not lucrative to be a member of Congress. Through
devious legislation Congress has turned these offices of service into an institution that is above the
very people it was designed to serve. It has become an institution that seeks power and allows
corruption.
When one considers that the approval rate of Congress at any given time is below 30%, it would
seem apparent that citizens are not happy with how they are represented. The question then becomes

Diversity Reflection
The implications and understandings developed in class were a gateway in applying it to real world
work. Being given the opportunity to volunteer at The Continuum, I was able to understand the
meaning of disability in the lives of others. I saw firsthand how access, knowledge, and care can
transform a person's daily life in all aspects. With educative modules on assistive technology, culture
and care, family issues, and many others, I was able to transform my perspective and practice what I
am currently learning in the classroom. The Continuum provides a ReGenerations Adult Day Club
for "individuals who may deal with Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Stroke
Recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S.". This program is fundamental in providing an array of
different care, and I found it to be beneficial for more than just their members. Through my 15 hours
of volunteer experience with The Continuum, I analyzed how a person's disability can be managed
and addressed using a variety of techniques and methods, in caring for individuals.
My first day volunteering had me nervous, but with an excited anticipation of being able to help
others, while learning. I immediately assessed the location for how they incorporated accessibility in
their framework, in regard to, the layout, doors, and general environment. It is interesting how once

The group I will use for this paper is a "Friends in Grief" support group I co–facilitated. This group
met for five weeks with the members experiencing the similarity of the death of a loved one. The
purpose of the group was a safe place where people can come to heal by mourning, supporting,
encouraging, and expressing grief with others. This agency limits groups of this type to twelve
members to ensure that each member is comfortable in the small chapel in which the group is held
however, this group was composed of two men and six females. All group members were Caucasian
and had lost a spouse of forty plus years. Every member of the group lived in an upscale fifty–five
plus community and all had retired (or retired spouse) from a distinguished profession with
pensions. Two of the female members had identifying disabilities. The youngest female was born
with a neurological disorder and the other was hard of hearing. There was one female group member
who was born and raised in Germany.

between the community and the applicant; it allowed the community to truly have their voices heard
with an actual response. This did, however, create a substantial amount of work for the applicant.
Changing the process required a major increase in research in a complicated subject matter. Having
to focus so much on explaining the changed process seemed to consume the vast majority of their

As a community member, Adelaide is always present and plays an active role in class discussions.
Adelaide works well with all of her peers but naturally gravitates to a select few. As a PE learner,
Adelaide is generally willing to participate in class activities but often prefers to take a more passive
role. Adelaide prefers activities where she can choose how to participate. Taylor is happy and
athletic member of the PE community. As a community member, Taylor can at times get distracted

Group Therapy Reaction
Thus far in the program I have had the opportunity to experience the process of group therapy.
Luckily, I have had the opportunity to run group sessions at my practicum site, so I have gained
substantial information about the group process. As I have learned in this program, group therapy is
a powerful form of therapy that allows group members to complete their therapeutic goals in a
group setting. As a therapist, I believe it is essential to experience what group process is like. For
this class assignment we were required to record a video session of a group session demonstrating
skills discussed by Yalom in our required text. This paper will serve the purpose to explore my
reaction of the experience of leading the group, reflections on the Yalom skills I incorporated, and
my views on the strengths I displayed as a leader. In addition, I will explore ways I can improve as a
group leader. From this assignment, my hope is to complete a session with tenants of Yalom, and
make improvements to my therapeutic style.

Prior to starting the assignment, I was extremely confident in running groups because at my
practicum site I ran two education groups and one process group each day I was at my site. Going

The aim of the activity was to indirectly assess who we would want to be in a team with, based on our perceptions of a person's behaviour, values, and work ethic. Most people would want to be in a team with people similar to them on a surface level (age, gender, ethnicity) and on a deeper level (personality, attitudes, believes, values) (Liang, Shih, & Chiang, 2015). I feel like we need to evaluate the system of how we keep track of point in order to tell which girls in our chapter are going to the most events. Once we figure out a system I think we should create some sort of incentive to give them that way members have something to look forward to. The incentive would be a nice way to acknowledge the members that took time to support other philanthropies and gain us more points. Finally, the matter of Panhellenic run events, I feel like in meetings leading up to the events someone has to ask questions like "will there be enough seats and does everyone get the same base number of seats". If I was delegate I would be more willing to ask questions and propose solutions. For example this year's Miss Panhellenic I would have suggested that every sorority should already have a pre–blocked off section that Panhellenic decides and give the delegates a max number of people that can go from each sorority that way we don't run into this problems of too many girls showing up.
