Jornie Joy D. Hinay Jesus Resurrection
Scriptural Basis of Jesus’s Resurrection:
1. The Bible records, "Fromthat time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must
go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things ... and be killed, and be raised up on the
third day" (Matthew 16:21, New American Standard Bible)
2. St. Paul summed it all up when he stated: "And if Christbe not risen again, then is
our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain ... And if Christ be not risen again,
your faith is vain, for you are yet in your sins." (1 Cor. 15:14, 17).
3. Peter's firstsermon, which dealt with Christ's resurrection, stirred peopleto
receive Him as their living Savior. Lukerecords the thrilling results: "That day
there were added about three thousand souls" (Acts 2:41)
4. Jesus is the first of the firstfruits—the mostholy part. "But now Christis risen
from the dead, and hasbecome the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep [in
death]" (1 Corinthians: 15:20).
5. The apostle Paul explained that Jesus is "the firstborn over all creation," "the
firstborn from the dead" and "the firstborn among many brethren" (Colossians:
1:15, 18; Romans: 8:29).
Traditional Basis of Jesus’s Resurrection:
1. The followers of Jesus said He had risen fromthe dead. They reported that He
appeared to them during a period of 40 days, showing Himself to them by many
"infallible proofs."
2. We see this even in Paul's letters. Paul himself, remember, doesn'twrite a gospel.
He actually doesn't tell us much about the life of Jesus at all.
3. After his death and resurrection in the year 30 the disciples' post-resurrection
faith saw deeper significance in all that he had done and said during his lifetime.
4. The tomb in which Jesus was buried was discovered empty by a group of women
on the Sunday following the crucifixion. Jesus'disciples had real experiences with
one whomthey believed was the risen Christ.
5. As a resultof the preaching of these disciples, which had the resurrection at its
canter, the Christian church was established and grew.

Non-biblical writings:
The New Testament documents, particularly the Gospels, were written by
eyewitnesses or under the direction of eyewitnesses beforethe death of the apostles.
Therefore, there wereplenty of people around who could have contested the post
crucifixion appearances of Christ. We must firstunderstand that the Gospels are
historical documents, and they are reliable ones. Itis not accurate to say that there are
no extra biblical accounts of the resurrection of Christ. There are other historians who
have written about this. However, the problem with mostof them is that they werenot
contemporaries of Jesus. Even the disciples didn't see Him rise fromthe dead. Instead,
they saw Him after He had risen, as was evidenced by the wounds in His hands and side
when He appeared to them (John 20:27).
The Resurrectionof Jesus
For me as a Christian citizen the Resurrection of Christ is the basis of our faith. If it did not happen,
Christianity is based on a lie and we have no hope of our own resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus is
important for several reasons. First, it witnesses to the immense power of God Himself. To believe in
the resurrection is to believe in God. If God exists, and if He created the universe and has power over
it, He has power to raise the dead.
If He does not have such power, He is not a God worthy of our faith and worship. Only He who
created life can resurrect it after death, only He can reverse the hideousness that is death itself, and
only He can remove the sting that is death and the victory that is the grave’s (1 Corinthians 15:54-55).
In resurrecting Jesus from the grave, God reminds us of His absolute sovereignty over life and death.
Second, the resurrection of Jesus is a testimony to the resurrection of human beings, which is a basic
tenet of the Christian faith.
