1. 2007 to ppresent Louisiana Cemetery Preservation -
Promoted an awareness of local historical resources,
provided a forum for concerned community members,
maintained mailing lists, created a collection of
materials from around the United States with regards to
cemetery history, preservation and law, created a collection of photographs, maintained
a collection of cemetery reports for abandoned, neglected or unknown cemeteries,
provided materials and cemetery reports of abandonment and neglect to the public-local
authorities, created an organization to promote local historical resources that included
professional archaeologists, historians, local cemetery preservation officials, librarians,
genealogists, and federally funded preservationists to enact changes locally and
statewide, organization worked to change state laws successfully, established the first
organization that promotes cemetery preservation statewide prior to the successful
change in cemetery law, assisted in defining the issues surrounding current cemetery
law and the lack of appropriate oversight locally and statewide, processed referrals to
appropriate organizations for further review, enforcement and inspection, provided
information to the local culture recreation and tourism authorities under the Lt.
Governor, provided information to the Asst. Atty Generals office, provided information to
regional state archaeologists and chief state archaeologist, provided information to local
cemetery authorities concerning complaints about active cemeteries, introduced SOC
cemetery preservation organization to social media communications successfully,
maintained database of information and resources, maintained and established internet
and email communications.
