Foster the People is an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles in 2009, consisting of Mark Foster, Cubbie Frank, and Mark Pontius. The band describes their music as melodic dance-infused pop and rock. Before starting the band, Mark Foster lived in Cleveland and California, working various jobs and expanding his social network through parties in Hollywood. Foster the People was formed through Foster's relationship with drummer Mark Pontius, later adding Cubbie Frank after he lost his job in the recession. Before Mark Foster founded the
band he lived in Cleveland, Ohio
then he moved to California to
pursue a career in music. Foster
worked various jobs and at night he
went to a lot of parties in Hollywood
to expand his social network. Foster
the people was born out of a
nascent relationship with drummer
Mark Pontius. The group added
Cubbie frank who lost his job in the
recession. The band was meant to
be called foster & the people but
the name was misheard as foster
the people and the name stuck.
