SharePoint 2013 - What's new for Devs - Belgian IT Bootcamp 2012Joris Poelmans
SharePoint 2013 introduces a new app model that allows developers to build standalone apps that can be deployed in SharePoint. There are three types of apps: SharePoint-hosted apps, which are contained within a SharePoint site; provider-hosted apps, which reside outside of SharePoint but integrate with it; and auto-hosted Azure apps, which are hosted and provisioned automatically in Windows Azure. The new app model provides developers with increased flexibility and the ability to leverage existing web development skills.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against developing mental illness and improve symptoms for those who already suffer from conditions like anxiety and depression.

The document discusses different aspects of inquiry-based learning. It explains that inquiry is consistent with constructivist learning theories but is not the same as constructivism. Inquiry can be open-ended, allowing students to develop different answers, or open-entry where students develop a pre-planned scientific concept. The teacher plays an important role in inquiry by asking questions, facilitating student activities, and helping students develop scientific language and concepts from their inquiries. The teacher also supports students by scaffolding the inquiry process and managing engagement and frustration levels.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Budget Control Act of 2011 would reduce budget deficits by at least $2.1 trillion over the period of 2012 to 2021. It would do this by establishing caps on discretionary spending, allowing additional spending for initiatives to reduce improper payments, and establishing an automatic process to trigger spending reductions if other provisions do not achieve targeted savings. Compared to CBO's baseline estimates, the legislation would lower budget authority and outlays on discretionary spending by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade.

Evaluating the effectiveness of scientific visualizations in physicsDavid Geelan
This document describes a research study that evaluated the educational effectiveness of using scientific visualizations to teach physics concepts in Year 11 Physics education. The study used a crossover research design where teachers taught two concepts - one with visualizations and one without - to see if using visualizations led to greater conceptual development as measured by pre and post tests. The study aimed to determine if teaching with scientific visualizations is more effective than teaching without them for supporting students' understanding of physics concepts. Data collection was postponed from 2008 to 2009 and results were to be presented at the AARE 2009 conference.
This document discusses different aspects of planning for teaching. It recommends that beginning teachers need more detailed written plans than experienced teachers. It also emphasizes that quality planning allows for flexibility and creativity in teaching. The document also notes specific planning considerations for teaching science, such as obtaining equipment and booking lab time. It describes planning in terms of overall year plans, unit plans, and using a storyline approach to structure individual lessons.
