This document outlines the syllabus for a course on foreign direct investments in the world economy. The course will cover major theories of foreign direct investment on the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels. It will examine trends in global FDI flows and flows into Central and Eastern Europe and Slovakia specifically. The possible impacts of FDI inflows on host countries will be evaluated. The main attributes of investment attractiveness will be discussed, along with the role of investment promotion agencies in improving attractiveness. Case studies will look at FDI in China and the automotive industry in Central and Eastern Europe. Students must actively participate and write an essay on a chosen topic.
