Advice:
o Use right foot only, it is unlikely you will brake and accelerate at the same time. They are
counterproductive. One is trying to move you – the other is trying to stop you
o When applying pressure to the brake pedal, two red lights on the rear of the vehicle light up
o When brake light are on it warns other road users behind that you either intend to
 Slow down
 Stop
o Spread out your braking over a long distance, using progressive pressure to slow and stop
o Only in an emergency brake hard
o Remember you are the only one who knows what you are going to do next. Others guess!
o If the brake light symbol comes on while driving, there is a problem. Safely stop as soon as is possible

o Modern day vehicle have all round disc brakes, some have discs at the front and shoes at the rear
o When pressure is applied all four wheel slow down at the same time
o When braking it is not guaranteed you will stop in time, even when braking firmly, reasons that
contribute are
 Your speed and distance from the object
 Weather conditions
 Slow or incorrect action of the driver
 Whether travelling up or down hill
 Load of the vehicle
 Condition of the brakes/ Condition of the
tyres/tyre pressures
Instruction:
1. Cover brake Right foot over pedal but do not touch
2. Gently brake To slow down
3. Off brake Gently release pressure
