some solutions, they can be keys to reflect on the food problems of our stage, yet
they can also be the keys to reflect your current scenario that you may require to do

Appreciation
First of all, we would like to thank this Personal Growth and Development Class which taught by
many professors to sharpen students' mindset as well as teaching us to have a specific goal, to gain
wisdom in order to be responsible and to live a meaningfully life. Furthermore, we are excited to do a
research on a topic of “Food Issue in Cambodia". We were originally and individually anxious and
unsure about the causes, but did not know where to hear from only the understanding of problems
without a solution. Neither knowing where to find or to be discussed. By the experience of studying and
surveying from the previous classes with our lecturer Kasumi on learning research, taking action of
surveying women workers and another class with lecturer Rachael Barat of Research paper which
gave us more comprehensive handing on this Food Issue research much better. This is a crucial excellency
of our lecturers whom already guided us a terminology to do a proper research that pushes us to another
better research in this food problems in Cambodia. More or less within our work, we do hope that
young generation may find this book as a reference for their research. At least, they know where to get,
and to go, especially, the directing point of our guidelines here. Based on this research, our group
successfully have a completion on both survey and individual observation on the issue. We do appreciate
all participants such as interviewees including consumers, shoppers, employees and small shop owners
those who have given us the precise opinions on the food safety independently. Without their
participation, we could not get the date or real problems that can stop the controversy instead the core
understanding solutions. Learning from this food issue, it also helps us to be responsible people on our
own actions that may cause to others. For instance, if we are lacking of food hygiene it may infect other
gems or bacteria in our living cost such as health problem and so on... By doing this research, it teaches
us a lot that we have found it a wonderful class in order to build our personality within responsibility
plus we may not bias by our own concerns. In reality, we may require to do including interviewing people,
understanding their concerns, finding process of the government on health department works, check
and research on the issue solution find success. In particular, we would like to thank the participants for
the interview as mentioned in the article. However, we could not pay our gratitude enough to the
professors, and teachers for their efforts to bring us fruitful outcomes. Discovering the experience and
the common purpose is to become a socially responsible person.
Through a study of this topic, we have made awareness on food, preserving health benefits as well as
understanding the food safety as well. Although the solution is not yet covered in this book, at least, we
are caution in order to avoiding and preparing for more profitable businesses in the future. Human beings
with a happy lifestyle require healthy, healthy on good safety food, good safety food is from all of us care
about organic food, natural fertilizer in plantation when we all healthy, we do more productivity, it
produce the harmonious in our society, this is the fact that development of a country need healthy
people because of healthy people may produce more productivities.
Lastly, we are profoundly felt-hearted for this Personal Growth and Development class, a special thanks
to all lecturers and professors in this class that lead us to fulfill our mindset and grow us to be intelligent.
We don’t just learn to see the problems but we firmly learn to take actions upon it. This is where we
stand, at the right direction. We are proud of having PG class.

1. Introduction
Food safety in Cambodia is a concern for the general populations in developing countries. Having
a healthy diet and food hygiene must be taken care of, this is one fundamental that we should
not have missed, because our physicality brings us strength and wisdom, when the body is weak
the brain is not working too. Both require to work together which empowers humans to have
enough stability to take actions. When a country within healthy people, the improvement and
the development of the country can be settled down as well. Therefore, choosing safety food is
the most important issue for all of us. That is why our team will examine the root of food which
causes to illustrate in this research. The first chapter begins, we believe that the next following
team will take it easier to next findings. However, this book can be one of counselors to you,
and if you just want to know more, it is a good idea to do so. Get it clearer in a bigger picture
on this topic.
Of course, if you decide to buy food, you must first check the quality of the food and its hygiene,
especially since you need to know the source of the product. But for the limited finance families,
they may often have ability to buy good food enough or ignorance of quality or safety. Although
Cambodia is considered as an agricultural country, most of the agricultural products are
imported from neighboring countries such as Vietnam and Thailand and our good and quality
products have export to outside of the country because the economy conflict. Street foods are
likely dangerous for health if they do not care about the hygiene nor its safety; or do a check.
Because those products may not properly have checked and have no control over their quality
control (QC). Some of the foods purchased are either mixed with injected by chemicals or

contain poison that can have diverse severe health consequences to many Cambodians. This is a
matter of how public concern for food issue. But for ordinary people, the problem has become
more commonplace. Despite some criticism and action, this has not diminished. Consumers are
depleted and undernourished in food safety, and some of them are causing diarrhea,
gastrointestinal problems that cause poor immune systems, which are susceptible to other
diseases in the future. This will make them poorer by spending money on medicines and hospitals,
wasting time, money because of negative effects from food issue.
Through this book, our team will present the research process within illustration some images
of the interviews from sellers and consumers as well, please turn the next page and enjoy your
findings with us.

2. A Reason of Choosing Locations for a Research
In our survey of business people (sellers) and consumers, our team has chosen two different
locations of categories to do this research, one is supermarket and another one is local
market.
Supermarkets:
Thai Huot
Aeon 1; and
Lucky Express
Local Markets:
Tuol Tom Pung
Boeung Keng Kang
Porthi Nhean
Choosing a location, we focus on the places where people most likely visit and where it is
popular among the crowded places, by doing that our team is able to get a detail data.
Additionally, anywhere allows us to access easily to see the differences between
consumption and sales of the products that related to food safety and health with those
massive people. The fact that we want to experience with the trends of the mall and local
markets where we are told the differences of the popularity, why they mostly visit that
market, it possibly gives us more details within this study. Not only that point, we can find
key tips for interviewing people from each class as well.

3. Action Plans
The plan is designed to achieve the objectives of the study on domestic food issues,
so a follow-up visit is required:
3.1 Preparation
The first week priority to our survey, a group meeting was held on the questionnaire to
be interviewed. Then set a target, set a date, a location, and we split into smaller groups
there are three groups, each pare group has to interview four people, 2 of consumers
and another 2 of sellers, so that’s a total of 12 people would collect data from
supermarkets and local markets.
3.2 On Set
On September 20, 2019, our team surveyed the selected sites. Initially one of the three
groups did not succeed in the interview; the cooperation of the business people
discouraged our group from taking the survey, but the problem was not a barrier for us
anymore because we found the solution for that case. The same day we discussed and
came up with a new solution, thinking that all of these problems could have been caused
by our polls divided into two subgroups. So we decided to take the afternoon which is
the following day on Sunday to redo the interview, but with a larger group. At one
o'clock, before we went on set, we met for a brainstorming about 15 minutes, to give
us a little bit more strategy, such as wearing the university ID card properly, and
discussed clearly about the questions that we had set to ask in the interview. Moreover,
to tell ourselves that, whatever the situation is we all will have to stay calm and be happy
and we will always wear a smile on our faces. Fortunately, our team was greeted warmly
by a professional manager who has years of experience in hospitality and sales, allowing
us to question until the end of the survey. It was a great pleasure to be participated with
him. That inspired us to keep up the good work. During the survey, what we found out
was the closeness of teammates as well as business owners through chatting. We did all
the work quickly from one market to another. We had a survey with a foreigner, who
is Malaysian, she was expressing her interest about this topic as well. Fortunately, we
had completed our survey, then we had another meeting regarding our work for the
following steps, which each one of us have to give the report from the compiling those
surveys. We had a small refreshment together as well.
