Climate Change
Thousand of millions of human beings live on our
Planet Earth, along with a vast number of plant
and animal species. Together, they conform the
ecosystems in wich we depend on in order to mantain
our quality of life. In fact, this planet is our only home.
Among the countless problems faced by Planet Earth,
climate change is an outsanding issue. It is mainly
caused by the emissions produced by the fossil fuels
we use to generate the energy needed at home and in
transportation. This is a severe problem that has an
impact on every human being in the world and many
countries have developed a number of initiatives
intended to find a solution.
Mexico is vulnerable to this problem, since authorities
have recognized that all industries in our economy
can have an impact on climate change. There are real
risks for the coutry’s infrastructure, particularly in
fields like food production, public health and viability
of places where many people have their homes(1)
.

Actions in Mexico
Several actions related to households have been launched in Mexico to face the climate
change problem. The most significant actions are described below:
The Intersecretarial Commission of Climate Change has
developed a national strategy to confront this problem,
emphasizing the importance of making investment decisions
in order to achieve savings and efficiency in the use of
energy required to build new housing complexes(2)
.
The National Housing Commission (CONAVI) has published
different guides, including one for effective use of energy in
housing design, construction and use(3)
.
The National Commission for Energy Saving (CONAE)
provides information on power consumption of home
appliances(4)
.
The Fund for Electric Power Saving (FIDE) has published
a Catalog of Products with FIDE Seal of Approval, which
identifies energy-saving home products(5)
.
P. 2
General Electric’s (GE) Commitments
GE believes that business activities and environment care can be
compatible. GE contributes to find a solution for the climate change
problem through Ecomagination, a global program that allows
consumers to use energy efficiently, reduce emissions, save water and
create different fresh water sources while protecting the environment.
GE is committed with the following efforts:
Increasing its investment in
research and development of
green technologies, from US$900
million in 2006 to US$1.5 billion in
2010.
Increasing sales of environment-
friendly products to reach a goal
of at least US$20 billion in 2010.
P. 3
Reducing its greenhouse gas emissions
by using energy more efficiently in its
operations.
Mantaining its customers and other
interested groups informed about progress
on the fulfillment of these commitments.
The different environment-friendly GE products are
distributed in a wide range of industry fields, including
water management, transportation, lighting, energy,
housing and car-making.

What are we doing at GE Money
Mortgage?
GE Money started operations in Mexico by offering mortgages that
were gradually complemented with actions from the “To Add Value...”
program. In this iniciative, every client obtains special discounts
in participating brands of home appliances, audio & video, built-in
kitchen appliances and even telephone services.
This program is in constant evolution and is now providing
GE Money Mortgage clients with five spiral-type energy
saving light bulbs certified by Ecomagination.
This is how GE Money keeps on increasing the value that
comes with its loans, this time with a new component
closely related to environmental issues
and particularly with climate change,
supporting its clients’ intelligent
decisions by offering a convenient,
efficient mortgage loan that is
unique in the Mexican market
and in harmony with the
environment.
P. 5
This small action is the beginning of a positive
awareness that will allow us all to contribute in
finding a solution for the climate change problem
with actions that are within our reach.
In addition, GE Money is re-designing its processes to eliminate
the use of paper in loan processing and to make sure that its
printed materials include recyclable components. GE is also
requesting its suppliers to do the same, in order to create
a multiplying effect intended to increase the number of
environment-friendly companies.
Either individually, or with our families, we can help to
improve our environment and, through our combined
actions, we can make the changes required by our
society to offer a better world for our children and
future generations.
This is why GE Money...
means a friendly loan.
P. 6
And how can I help?
It’s important to notice that each one of us can make
intelligent decisions to save energy and water at home. With
this, we are improving our financial position and contributing to
solve the climate change problem in our planet. GE Money’s friendly
mortgage supports individual actions oriented to take care of our
environment.
Regardless of the type of climate prevailing in the area where we live
there are a number of opportunities, such as:
Energy alternatives:
Choose solar water heaters,
which reduce the use of gas.
Use solar cells that allow to
maintain a proper temperature
at home, making a rational use
of energy.
P. 7
Choosing a Home:
Choose your home based on
its location.
Look for homes with a good
thermal insulation, especially
in warm weather areas. This
can lead to an average of 25%
savings of electricity power
used by air-conditioning
systems and to mantain a
proper temperature inside
home.
Choose homes with
environment-friendly devices.
P. 8
Energy Savings
Replace your old home appliances with
new models that can provide up to 40%
energy savings.
Choose air-conditioning systems that can
save up to 40% in power consumption in
comparisson to conventional systems.
Use spiral-type light bulbs; they can save
up to 75% in power consumption and have
a life up to 10 times longer than regular
light bulbs.
Always remember to turn off room
lights and to unplug computers, hair
dryers, battery chargers and other home
appliances when not in use. Keeping
them on when they are not being used
represents 5% of power consumption at
home(6)
.

P. 9
We continue “To Add Value...”
These are some examples of the energy-saving
products provided by GE:
P. 10
Energy Star certifies
GE products for their
40% reduction in
conventional power
consumption
GE Washers and Dishwashers have
built-in water and energy saving
systems
GE provides light bulbs
with reduced carbon
dioxide emissions,
which cause global
warming
GE Disposers help
to manage home
waste
GE Solar Cells
provide noise-
free energy
generation
Use your “To Add Value…” benefits and rebate certificates to purchase.
P. 11
GE Money...
means a friendly loan
Upon closing your loan, you will
receive an environment-friendly
pack and the benefits of the
“To Add Value...” program
During the following 12 months, GE Money will grant at least 12,500
mortgages, giving away more than 60,000 spiral-type lightbulbs
certified by Ecomagination.
This energy saving effort represents the power consumption at GE
Money’s offices in Mexico City and Monterrey for one year.
Or it’s also equivalent to solving the lighting needs in over 7,800
households in Mexico.
Join this intelligent decision and choose...
a friendly loan.
