FMM 325: Final Project Guidelines and Grading Guide
Overview
The final project for this course is a professional production challenge which will be submitted as a PowerPoint presentation. This project will require students
to develop a comprehensive, sustainable apparel collection as a fictitious private-label manufacturer. The student will research and create concepts to produce
the garments as detailed in the design brief. Students will also merchandise the collection. Students will acquire the capability to act quickly to solve
manufacturing and production challenges as they arise. This will also give students an opportunity to learn how to properly document recommendations with a
specialized standard in mind. The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competency because students will emulate a collection based on a
design brief, which are currently used by professionals in the apparel industry. The project is divided into four milestones, which will be submitted at various
points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Two, Three, Five, and
Seven.
Guidelines
The Design Brief:
An Organic Planet
Season: Spring/Summer
Directions: Seeing a radical change in our global climate, we are forced to think differently and act more responsibly in our approach to design. We need to
simplify, be more resourceful, and understand more clearly what our impact on the planet is based on the decisions we make. For this season, we are going on a
journey to Bali, a place closely connected to the Earth, where people live in balance with the land through their resourcefulness and spiritual reverence. Be
mindful and respectful of the Balinese people and their customs. We choose to blend in with our surroundings while still retaining a sense of self. Clothes that
can be tied or wrapped and layered, almost sculptural in effect, are preferred. Minimize the use of hardware, and if it is absolutely necessary, make it meaningful.
All fabrics are either organic or recycled, with an absolute minimum of waste left over. Zero waste is ideal.
Colors: Reflecting the Balinese people and their respect for the connection of all things natural, we will use the four elements as our guiding inspiration for color,
creating a sense of balance and harmony in the collection.
• Earth: warm browns such as cinnamon, teakwood
• Air: white, glass or metal, ice
• Fire: tangerine, saffron, fuchsia
• Water: aqua, oceanic blue
Your role: designer, merchandiser, sales, marketer, buyer
Milestone One: Paper: Targeting The Sustainably Minded Customer
In task 2-3, you will submit a short paper of 2–3 pages. Determine your target market category and how and why these consumers embrace fashions that are
made of environmentally friendly fabrics. You should research and define your product’s targeted customers and describe their characteristics.

Consumer Behaviour Project (20%) 1
This project is designed to enhance your understanding of the processes involved in and the influences on
Consumer Behaviour.
The main objectives of the Consumer Behaviour Project are:
• To develop an appreciation for the value of knowledge of Consumer Behaviour in developing a
successful marketing strategy
• To provide a coherent framework for interpreting consumer reactions to marketing stimuli
• To develop an appreciation of the ethical dimensions of consumer marketing
• To develop your knowledge on how to write precisely and concisely for business writing
To achieve these objectives, you will be asked to do some specific tasks:
• Learn and use key terms, definitions, and concepts used in the field of Consumer Behaviour
• Show knowledge and understanding of the course material in your group project
• Engage in and report on your own consumer behaviour with an increased awareness of the
internal and external forces at work when you make a purchase
• Share with the class your applications of Consumer Behaviour theory, using your group’s project
Your group will choose a product (good, service, combination, event, person, place, etc.) which is
currently offered for sale in the Canadian marketplace today by a specific company (it need not be
manufactured in Canada).
After learning about the consumers who buy this product, create the concept of a product extension. This
new product must be something that is not currently marketed by that particular company, that you think
would interest the same customers who are now buying the original product.
EXAMPLE: if you chose Gatorade with their green (and other colours) drink which is marketed to young
sporty people, particularly males, your product line extension might be a line of Gatorade sports clothing.
I should advise you to choose a product for which you will be able to find an advertising campaign; you
may use an ad from the Internet but be sure it can be printed out to hand in, and that it has the elements of
an advertisement and is not just a picture (an ad can be just a picture but that's a philosophical debate for
another time).
i. Point of View
When writing the project, put yourself in the role of a marketing consultant to the producer of the product
you have selected. Write it like a business report - clear and concise.

Directions
· Refer to the product or service you selected at the beginning of the semester. This week, you want to take a closer look at what consumer factors may be relevant for customers who are considering buying your product or service offering. This will require some critical thinking on your part based on your own behavior if you are a customer yourself, or you may want to talk to others who have purchased the product. Sometimes you can find clues when looking at the marketing messages that may be addressing some of these factors.
· Prepare your assignment beginning with a title page with your name and the name of your product or service. Then answer each of the following eight questions (four in part 1 and four in part 2) in order and number the beginning of your response to each question. Although you do not need to repeat the question, there should be a heading to separate the sections. The paper should contain approximately 5+ pages of analysis for the responses to the eight questions.

The document outlines an engineering design challenge for students to redesign food packaging to transport milk safely. Students will work in teams to design, build, and test milk packaging containers that can hold 500ml of milk securely for 24 hours during transportation and storage. Their designs will be evaluated based on how well the milk is protected, how fresh the milk remains, the presentation of the packaging, and the innovativeness of the design. The goal is for students to learn about the engineering design process and considerations that go into designing effective food packaging.
The document discusses building a sustainable fashion business through the EcoChic Design Award. It explains that a sustainable business aims for positive social and environmental impacts alongside profit. The fashion industry is highly polluting so there is a responsibility to change this. Being sustainable can lower costs and increase profits through more efficient operations. It then provides tips for various stages of business operations to reduce environmental impacts, such as choosing sustainable materials, reducing waste and emissions in design, production, distribution and retail.
1. Retailers serve customers by providing goods in the required assortment, place, and time. They arrange product assortments, break bulk quantities into smaller units for individual consumption, and hold stock for instant availability.
2. Retailers also serve manufacturers by distributing goods to end users, creating a channel of information from manufacturers to consumers, and acting as the final link in the distribution chain. They may also recommend unbranded or low brand loyalty products.
3. While retailers function as the interface between industry and consumers, they have an opportunity to educate customers on sustainability issues and advance these causes through conscientious buying practices that support partners engaging in positive environmental and social work.
This document discusses co-design and DIY in the apparel industry. It begins by providing background on mass production and customization in clothing. It then explains that co-design and DIY are both ways for manufacturers to respond to consumers' desires for unique garments, but they differ in the time commitment required. Specifically, co-design allows for customization at the cost of mass production, while DIY is more time consuming and inconvenient for consumers. The document argues that co-design and DIY are complementary approaches that can be successfully implemented in the fashion industry when catering to different consumer needs and preferences.
This document contains a business plan for launching a new clothing brand focused on caps and belts. It outlines the products, target markets, raw materials, advertising strategy, and costing analysis. The key points are:
1) The products will be caps and belts for men and women in a range of designs and colors.
2) The target market is people of all ages, targeting both upper and middle classes.
3) Quality materials like leather, cotton, wool and silk will be used while keeping costs low.
4) Advertising will include television, newspapers and online to promote the brand widely.

Feedback from the journal assignment:
Very well done! I do recommend using first and second level headings in your paper. It helps the reader identify the next topic to be covered and is the next step in writing a scholarly paper. CONTENT: You have provided a summary of the directional strategies and identified the strategic alternatives of the Asian Health Services case study. The examples from the case study convey your ability to apply the strategic management concepts. In addition, you were able to show the connection to the organization’s mission, vision, and values (MVV). Your evaluation of the implementation of the directional strategies as well as the alternatives was accurate in depicting the MVV’s outlined by the organization. This document discusses best practices for a data-driven merchandising workflow. It provides examples of how to review past performance, develop buying plans and forecasts, determine exit strategies, allocate inventory, and conduct ongoing performance evaluations. Specifically, it recommends merchandisers consider key metrics like historical sales, trends, pricing, sell-through rates, and competitors' strategies when planning assortments and optimizing inventory management. An example is provided of a retailer expanding their swimwear collection, highlighting the types of data and market insights that should inform decisions at each step of the merchandising process.
Here are the key points regarding the capital budgeting analysis of the two proposed projects for the New Heritage Doll Company:
- The MMDCE (Make My Doll Clothing Extension) involves extending the company's existing doll clothing line, while the DYOD (Design Your Own Doll) involves launching an entirely new product line where customers can customize their own doll.
- The MMDCE has less risk than the DYOD since it builds on an existing product category, while the DYOD involves risks associated with a new product launch. Therefore, a higher discount rate of 9% should be used for the DYOD's NPV calculation versus 8.4% for the MMDCE.

1. Small, low-priced packaging allows rural consumers to try products that would otherwise be out of their price range. This strategy has been successfully used by other consumer goods.
2. Products designed for rural consumers should be sturdy enough to withstand rough handling and storage, as rural consumers value durability. They also prefer bright, flashy colors.
3. Rural consumers are more concerned with a product's utility than its brand name, but brand name recognition is still important for easy recall and trust.
This document discusses product and branding strategies. It covers the product life cycle (PLC) model which explains how market response and marketing activities change over a product's lifetime. The PLC includes introduction, growth, maturity, and decline stages. Branding is also discussed as creating relationships with customers through symbols, names, and unique identifiers for products. Strong brands have high brand equity which provides a pricing premium over generic competitors. Packaging is also mentioned as an important part of branding that protects products and communicates with customers.

You are a Wichita Police Department detective working in the major c.docxShainaBoling829
You are a Wichita Police Department detective working in the major crimes unit, and you are assigned to a joint federal–state–city crime task force working on a number of major drug cases. Over a period of several months, your task force has been able to gather information and make cases on several of the drug suppliers, drug dealers, and drug buyers in the Wichita metropolitan area. The task force is about to complete its mission by filing criminal charges in the federal district court, the state district court, or the Wichita Municipal Court against these various suspects. These suspects will not be arrested until the warrants are issued.
Your job is to make recommendations concerning which jurisdictions should file the charges on which defendants. You will need to evaluate the criminal statutes and penalties in each jurisdiction and even the rules of evidence to determine where your task force has the best chance of obtaining a conviction and in getting the punishment to fit the crime.
The memo that you receive from your Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) task force supervisor explains the situation:

Re: Charging Decisions
You are the primary investigator in the cases against Jones, Smith, and Thompson. As I review your reports, it appears that each of these cases has strengths and weaknesses that we should evaluate before we determine whether to file charges in the U.S. District Court, the Sedgwick County District Court for the State of Kansas, or the Wichita Municipal Court. I will summarize those strengths and weaknesses here to make sure I am reading your reports correctly. I need you to give me advice on where you think these charges should be brought.
Jones has been working for you as a confidential informant because you have evidence against him for a February 6, 2005 third possession of cocaine after convictions in 1993 and 1994. He appears to have followed the terms of his deal with you to introduce our undercover agents to his dealer. We have promised not to prosecute for any drug offenses he may commit in the presence of our undercover agent while playing the role of our informant. His assistance has enabled us to get sufficient evidence on Smith and Thompson to obtain convictions. Based on Jones’ two prior convictions for possession of cocaine, we would normally want him to go to federal court, where the maximum sentences are available. However, because of his cooperation, we could file the case in the Sedgwick County, Kansas, and district court under state law. We could even change the charge to a drug paraphernalia offense and send his case to the city of Wichita.
How do you think we should proceed concerning Jones' February 6, 2005 cocaine possession? (30%)
He will probably plead guilty unless we send him to federal court. Where do you want to file the case? (20%)
Smith has sold cocaine to our undercover agents on two occasions: July 12, 2005 and August 3, 2005. We have found no prior record on this individual, bu.

xxxxx comment 1
xxxxx, I believe America only sees left/right, liberal/conservative, one's race/others' race, one's religion/others' religion, etc. To be fair, there are important issues that we do face but the media has pulled both further from the center. This is done to keep us preoccupied in conflict so we ignore what is being done in front of our faces, which is politicians/media/wealthy elites are controlling the government/financial system/media to mold the public's views and what they buy. By them focusing on these secondary issues and differences, we are missing the root problem: money in politics. These legal bribes guarantee that we are not represented in legislation unless enough people oppose the current law.
Comment 2
Nicely said, it is amazing how money can be used to basically buy anything in the world, even our politicians. The Presidency, our Senators and Congressman, Governors, Mayor's and more. This allows for things like the rich getting richer and the poor or course getting poorer. It almost seems like there is no middle class anymore. Money plays a huge role in everyday life. Don't get me wrong, money and politicians has definitely been used in some cases for the good or doing the right thing. We cannot base everything evil or not perfect on money. We just have to be more responsible.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

FMM 325 Final Project Guidelines and Grading Guide Ov
1. FMM 325: Final Project Guidelines and Grading Guide
Overview
The final project for this course is a professional production
challenge which will be submitted as a PowerPoint presentation.
This project will require students
to develop a comprehensive, sustainable apparel collection as a
fictitious private-label manufacturer. The student will research
and create concepts to produce
the garments as detailed in the design brief. Students will also
merchandise the collection. Students will acquire the capability
to act quickly to solve
manufacturing and production challenges as they arise. This
will also give students an opportunity to learn how to properly
document recommendations with a
specialized standard in mind. The final product represents an
authentic demonstration of competency because students will
emulate a collection based on a
design brief, which are currently used by professionals in the
apparel industry. The project is divided into four milestones,
which will be submitted at various
points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure
quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in
Modules Two, Three, Five, and
Seven.
Guidelines
The Design Brief:
An Organic Planet
2. Season: Spring/Summer
Directions: Seeing a radical change in our global climate, we
are forced to think differently and act more responsibly in our
approach to design. We need to
simplify, be more resourceful, and understand more clearly what
our impact on the planet is based on the decisions we make. For
this season, we are going on a
journey to Bali, a place closely connected to the Earth, where
people live in balance with the land through their
resourcefulness and spiritual reverence. Be
mindful and respectful of the Balinese people and their customs.
We choose to blend in with our surroundings while still
retaining a sense of self. Clothes that
can be tied or wrapped and layered, almost sculptural in effect,
are preferred. Minimize the use of hardware, and if it i s
absolutely necessary, make it meaningful.
All fabrics are either organic or recycled, with an absolute
minimum of waste left over. Zero waste is ideal.
Colors: Reflecting the Balinese people and their respect for the
connection of all things natural, we will use the four elements
as our guiding inspiration for color,
creating a sense of balance and harmony in the collection.
• Earth: warm browns such as cinnamon, teakwood
• Air: white, glass or metal, ice
• Fire: tangerine, saffron, fuchsia
• Water: aqua, oceanic blue
Your role: designer, merchandiser, sales, marketer, buyer
3. Milestone One: Paper: Targeting The Sustainably Minded
Customer
In task 2-3, you will submit a short paper of 2–3 pages.
Determine your target market category and how and why these
consumers embrace fashions that are
made of environmentally friendly fabrics. You should research
and define your product’s targeted customers and describe their
characteristics.
Description of a Target Market: Occupation, gender ratio,
average age, geographics/location, psychological shopping
habits, demographic, and lifestyle
preferences. Gauge the importance of sustainable products to
this customer. For example, if you are creating for kids’ wear,
indicate age(s) of child; however, you
will need to think of a profile for the primary caretaker of the
child (parent, grandparent, guardian) so that you can market to
the caretaker properly.
By Module Two, you should have an idea of the market
category you are choosing for this garment line, and you may
choose ONE of the following: women’s,
men’s, juniors, petite women, plus-sized women, or kids’ wear.
Indicate the subcategory/style description, for example,
sportswear (everyday wear), activewear
(such as yoga wear), playwear, or sleepwear. Remember, you
will be using sustainable fabrics, so keep in mind which target
market would benefit best from eco-
friendly garments.
4. Keep in mind the size range of this collection. Choose the
appropriate size range for your market category. For example, if
you are doing kids’ wear, you may
choose to target toddlers (size range is 2T-3T-4T). An example
of junior girls’ sizing range is 0–15.
The format should be a short paper. This milestone is graded for
the quality of the research/data you uncover and validate (cite
all information), compilation of
the information, the content of the descriptions of each the
features of your specified target customer, and the way the data
is expressed as it applies to this
project. This milestone will be graded using the Milestone One
Rubric.
Milestone Two: PowerPoint Presentation #1
In task 3-3, you will submit a PowerPoint presentation of
approximately 5–10 slides. Students will determine fabrics to be
used for the market category they
choose. Referring to the design brief contents, the recommended
fabrics include organic cotton knits, hemp (wovens), and
organic and cruelty-free wool. Fabrics
to avoid: synthetics (exception: materials that are either
recycled and/or have a low impact on the environment). Include
pictures of swatches of fabrics with a
description of the fabric, source, cost, and care instructions.
Explain how these fabrics are better than conventional fabrics
and safe for the environment and
healthier for people to wear. Include images of the garments in
this collection.
Market Category: Choose ONE market only: women’s, men’s,
5. juniors, petite women, plus-sized women, or kids’ wear.
Indicate the subcategory/style description,
for example, sportswear (everyday wear), activewear (such as
yoga wear), playwear, or sleepwear. (Create a mood board of
visuals that express the direction of
this collection).
Construction/Description: For this line, you will conceptualize
the garments (six tops and two or three bottoms and two pieces
of outerwear). Think and work like
an artisan. Every piece should have an element of hand detail
such as embroidery, appliqués, or carved buttons from wood.
Create a mood board of visuals on a
slide or two that express the direction of this collection for the
specified customer.
You may find pictures/photos or create your own illustrations of
the garments in this line. You will not be graded on your
drawing abilities (or lack thereof).
The format should be in a PowerPoint presentation. This
milestone is graded for the quality of the research and
compilation of the information and the way it is
expressed as it applies to this project. This milestone will be
graded using the Milestone Two Rubric.
Milestone Three: PowerPoint Presentation #2
In task 5-3, you will submit a PowerPoint presentation of
approximately 5–10 slides. Students will determine the location
6. of production, the packing required,
how distribution will take place, and the retail price of the
garment. Students will also re-evaluate the garment collection
and ensure that it has been properly
merchandised and is marketable. Students will describe each
step of production and evaluate its impact on the environment.
Production: Think about location of production/manufacturing.
If produced domestically, indicate where and why. If garments
are produced off-shore, indicate
where and why. Remember, you are producing an eco-friendly,
sustainable product, so make sure your choice is the best when
it comes to sustainability.
Packing requirements: Think about sustainable packing
requirements. (Example: Will you use hangers in packaging?).
Source for all items that will be necessary
for packing and shipping.
Delivery: Be sure to indicate by what date production has to be
completed and how and when delivery of goods will take place.
How will the products be
shipped?
Order total: 4,000 pieces (break this down per sizing—will you
want more of larger sizes than smaller sizes, or vice versa?
Remember to keep your target market
profile in mind).
Retail price of each unit: Be sure to keep in mind the costs of
the garments (wholesale costs) and what the profit margin will
7. be (retail prices).
The format should be a PowerPoint presentation. This milestone
is graded for the quality of the research and compilation of the
information and the way it is
expressed as it applies to this project. This milestone will be
graded using the Milestone Three Rubric.
Milestone Four: Final Presentation
In task 7-3, you will submit your final PowerPoint presentation
of approximately 15–30 slides. Combine all of the milestone
projects as well as the additional
information as set forth by the final milestone assignment. It
should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the
main elements of the final product. The
contents should reflect all of the components from each
milestone that you have submitted throughout the course. If
feedback suggested that you change,
update, and/or modify any component, those changes should be
incorporated or addressed. Present a step-by-step PowerPoint
presentation about how you
would meet the challenge of having this order produced, having
it in-store for the season specified, marketing it successfully to
the primary target audience AND
secondary market, and producing it as sustainably as possible.
Other things to consider including in your presentation:
8. 1. What key information would you need to supply to the
manufacturer about this sustainable collection?
2. Could any of the steps be expedited in order to speed up the
manufacturing process, all the while not losing sight of
maintaining transparency of the
sustainability of production?
3. How will you merchandise these garments and promote the
benefits of being an eco-friendly collection? How will buyers
and other retailers respond to
these sustainable garments?
Include any images, URLs, or other documentation to support
your findings. In addition, your presentation must include the
following: title, your name, and
references. This milestone will be graded using the Final
Presentation Rubric (below).
Things to keep in mind: Think of the styles you are
creating/purchasing for the target market and the number of
outfits you can create from the collection. You
want to make sure that you create balance that can be
merchandised by color, grouping of fabrics, and, ultimately, the
overall end function of the outfits.
