Germany developed two secret weapons in World War 2 - the V-1 flying bomb and the V-2 rocket. The V-1 was a pilotless plane powered by a pulse jet engine that could carry over 1 ton of explosives and was launched from sites in German-occupied France against targets in southeast England, killing over 6,000 people. The supersonic V-2 rocket was developed later and could fly over 50 miles high, making it nearly impossible to stop once launched. Over 5,000 V-2s were fired at Britain, killing 2,724 and injuring 6,000 more.
