What do you things about EXPANSION?
When a solid, liquid, and gas heated the particle begin to move future a part making the materials
bigger is called Expansion. Commonly a matter whether solid, liquid, and gas can expand if they are
heated (the temperature is heated).
The classification of expansion.
    1. a. Length expansion
Coefficient is symbolized by (alpha) its unit per degrees Celsius (/ 0 C or C-1) or per
Kelvin (/K or K-1) the length expansion coefficient is formulated as follow.
 Or
 In which:
So the length expansion of solid depends on three factors, those are:
    1. The initial length before heated.
    2. The temperature increases.
    3. The kinds of materials.
Several values of the length expansion coefficient of several kinds of matters.
The length expansion coefficient of various solids.

The kinds of matters Length expansion coefficient
Aluminum 2.4 x 10-5
Brass 1.9 x 10-5
Bronze 1.9 x 10-5
Steel 1.1 x 10-5
Iron 1.2 x 10-5
Cooper 1.7 x 10-5
Usual glass 0.9 x 10-5
Pyrex glass 0.32 x 10-5
Gold 1.4 x 10-5
    1. b. Area expansion
Area expansion can be investigated in solid which is flat or thin disk- shaped. For
example glass window. Which into the window glass is not broken?
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Area expansion coefficient is symbolized by and is defined as the ratio between area
increases to the initial area of the body per unit temperature increase.
It can be formulated as follows:
 Or
In which:
     1. c. Volume expansion.
A solid undergoes volume expansion. Its means these solid expansions causing the solid
become larger than length and height. Volume expansion coefficient is symbol by it’s
defined as ratio of volume increase to the initial volume of body per unit of temperature
increase. It’s express as follows:

Or
In which:
     1. d. Gas expansion
Gas is matters that can expand will this temperature increase. Similar are expansion of
liquid, gas only volume expansion. Based on the research of Gay-Lussac is obtained the
volume expansion coefficients of every gas equal, that’s: . In the gas expansion there are
three things interconnected, those are: volume, temperature, and pressure. Gas
expansion can happen in two condition, those are gas expansion at constant pressure and
gas expansion at constant volume.
     1. Gas expansion at constant pressure.
From example in a close a jar the initial volume of gas = then the gas heated constant
pressure. So, the temperature increases of and volume increase of . The formulated as
follows:
     1. Gas expansion at constant volume.
Example a close a jar contains gas then heated, so the temperature increases of. Volume
of the air limited, so the air cannot expand and air pressure increases of the
formulated as follow:
     1. e. Expansion principle in daily life.
Application the principle of expansion principle of matter which beneficial in daily life as
follows:
