2. • The project made use of Ruukki's structural fire design to ensure fire safety of the steel
structures in the event of fire and to choose the most effective fire protection method for
the different parts of the construction project. The building speed plays a big role in the
process. Ruukki has earlier been involved in Ikea construction projects in Finland,
Sweden, Russia, and Poland.
• Storeys: 12
• Floor area: 35000m2
Steel structures:
Composite steel concrete columns
Tubular steel trusses
Wq welded profiles
Wal lcladding: Sandwich panels(rock wool
insulation)
Roof structure: Corrugated steel sheeting

3. • Fire protection of steel structures with automatic water distinguishers” was used as
the main fire protection method. With this method one can achieve 90 minute fire
protection, having the water flow minimum of 10mm/min. No additional fire
protection to steel structures is needed within this system’s coverage.
• The system is optimal for 12 storey commercial, large buildings. The approval is
based on actual large scale fire tests and also a large simulation project.
4. • Part of the structures, especially the bottom chords of the WQ beams ( integrated,
welded slim floor beams) in the intermediate floors were protected by intumescent
paint.
• Also some part of the bracing structures was protected by fire protection materials.
This was done in the office area of the building where the spaces are lower, and the
water flow from the sprinklers was smaller.
5. • Performance based ways are integrating tailored-made fire safety
for the design situation, taking into account the fire risks relevant
to that specific building or to other objects in the built environment.
• In performance-based fire protection, the designer has to assess the
potential fire scenarios for a situation and design the fire safety
based on the identified risks.
• Prescribed fire based fire protection is an approach that will allow
the building to meet a pre-set standard when it comes to fire safety,
making it ‘code compliant’.
WHAT ARE PRESCRIPTIVE AND PERFOMANCE BASED WAYS
6. INSULATION PANELS
• Rockwool insulation panels are pre-fabricated composite sandwich panels
with high density Rockwool insulation as core and profiled or plain color
coated galvanized steel or galvalume steel sheet on either side.
• They offer protection from cold, heat, risk of fire and ambient noise.
• Rockwool cores provide non-combustibility and outstanding acoustic
performance.
• Rock wool sandwich panels can be installed horizontally and vertically.
• Easy to install and handle.
7. INTUMESCENT PAINTS
Fire retardant paints (Intumescent)
•Decorative finish under normal conditions
•Foam and swell in fire
•Produces an insulating char layer, about 60 times
thicker than in normal temperature
•Applied by spray, brush or roller
Commonly painted structures:
•Trusses,
•Beams, columns
•WQ-Beams, bottom flange
