Fire is the process of combustion where inflammable materials produce heat, light, and often smoke through reaction with oxygen. The visible portion is the flame, which consists of hot gases that may become ionized plasma depending on temperature. Grasslands rely on naturally occurring fires to clear out trees and promote new plant growth important for animals. While fire provides warmth, faulty wiring and other ignition sources can allow destructive fires to start and spread rapidly, emitting toxic gases and endangering lives. Prevention methods include eliminating potential fuels and ignition points, and being prepared with appropriate fire extinguishers.
