Book of Baruch, ancient text purportedly written by Baruch, secretary and friend of Jeremiah, the Old Testament prophet. The text is still extant in Greek and in several translations from Greek into Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopic, and other languages. The Book of Baruch is apocryphal to the Hebrew and Protestant canons but was incorporated in the Septuagint and was included in the Old Testament for Roman Catholics. The work is a compilation of several authors and is the only work among the apocrypha that was consciously modeled after the prophetic writings of the Old Testament.
1 Esdras is the ancient Greek Septuagint version of the biblical Book of Ezra in use within the early church, and among many modern Christians with varying degrees of canonicity. 1 Esdras is substantially similar to the standard Hebrew version of Ezra–Nehemiah, with the passages specific to the career of Nehemiah removed or re-attributed to Ezra, and some additional material.
The Book of Zephaniah is the ninth of the Twelve Minor Prophets of the Old Testament and Tanakh, preceded by the Book of Habakkuk and followed by the Book of Haggai. Zephaniah means "Yahweh has hidden/protected," or "Yahweh hides".
2nd Maccabees is a deuterocanonical book which recounts the persecution of Jews under King Antiochus IV Epiphanes and the Maccabean Revolt against him. Painting by Pierre Paul Rubens, 1634.
The Gospel of James or The Protevangelion is a second-century infancy gospel telling of the miraculous conception of the Virgin Mary, her upbringing and marriage to Joseph, the journey of the couple to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, and events immediately following.
2 Esdras is an apocalyptic book in some English versions of the Bible. Tradition ascribes it to Ezra, a scribe and priest of the fifth century BC, but scholarship places its composition between 70 and 218 AD.

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. LUKE 1:26-33
The Prayer of Azariah and the accompanying Song of the Three Young Men form part of chapter three and embellish the story of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, three young Jewish men who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace for defying Nebuchadrezzar’s order to worship an idol.
The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth book of the 12 minor prophets of the Bible. It is attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, and was probably composed in the late 7th century BC. The original text was written in the Hebrew language.
The Book of Tobit, also known as the Book of Tobias, is a 3rd or early 2nd century BC Jewish work describing how God tests the faithful, responds to prayers, and protects the covenant community.
The Epistle of Jude is the penultimate book of the New Testament as well as the Christian Bible. It is traditionally attributed to Jude, brother of James the Just, and thus possibly a brother of Jesus as well. Jude is a short epistle written in Koine Greek.
The Book of Sirach or Ecclesiasticus is a Jewish work, originally written in Hebrew. It consists of ethical teachings, from approximately 200 to 175 BCE, written by the Judahite scribe Ben Sira of Jerusalem, on the inspiration of his father Joshua son of Sirach. Joshua is sometimes called Jesus son of Sirach or Yeshua ben Eliezer ben Sira.
The Book of Obadiah is a book of the Bible whose authorship is attributed to Obadiah, a prophet who lived in the Assyrian Period. Obadiah is one of the Twelve Minor Prophets in the final section of Nevi'im, the second main division of the Hebrew Bible.
The Story of Ahikar, folktale of Babylonian or Persian origin, about a wise and moral man who supposedly served as one of the chief counselors of Sennacherib, king of Assyria (704–681 bc). Like the biblical Job, Ahikar was a prototype of the just man whose righteousness was sorely tested and ultimately rewarded by God.

2. LUKU 1
poika, Maasian pojan, Sedekian pojan, Asadian pojan,
Kelkiaan pojan, kirjoitti Babylonissa,
2 Viidentenä vuonna ja kuun seitsemäntenä päivänä,
mihin aikaan kaldealaiset valloittivat Jerusalemin ja
polttivat sen tulella.
3 Ja Baaruk luki tämän kirjan sanat Jekonian, Joakimin
pojan, Juudan kuninkaan, kuullen ja kaiken kansan
kuullen, joka tuli kuulemaan kirjaa,
4 Ja ylimysten ja kuninkaan poikien kuullen ja
vanhimpien ja kaiken kansan kuullen, alhaisimmasta
korkeimpaan, kaikkien niiden, jotka asuivat
Babylonissa Sud-joen rannalla.
10 He sanoivat: "Katso, me olemme lähettäneet teille
rahaa ostaaksemme teille polttouhreja ja syntiuhreja ja
suitsukkeita ja valmistaaksemme mannaa ja
uhrataksemme Herran, meidän Jumalamme, alttarilla.
11 Ja rukoilkaa Babylonin kuninkaan
Nabukadonosorin ja hänen poikansa Baltasarin hengen
puolesta, että heidän päivänsä olisivat maan päällä
niinkuin taivaan päivät:
12 Ja Herra antaa meille voimaa ja valaisee silmäämme,
niin me saamme asua Baabelin kuninkaan
Nabukadonosorin varjossa ja hänen poikansa
Baltasarin varjon alla, ja me palvelemme heitä monta
päivää ja löydämme armon heidän silmissään. .
niinkuin tänä päivänä on tapahtunut Juudan asukkaille
ja Jerusalemin asukkaille,
16 Ja kuninkaillemme ja ruhtinaillemme ja
papeillemme ja profeetoillemme ja isillemme.
17 Sillä me olemme tehneet syntiä Herran edessä,
olleet tottelemattomia Herralle, Jumalallemme,
21 Kuitenkaan me emme ole kuulleet Herran, meidän
Jumalamme, ääntä, kaikkien niiden profeettojen
sanojen mukaan, jotka hän lähetti meille:
22 Mutta jokainen seurasi oman pahan sydämensä
mielikuvitusta palvellakseen vieraita jumalia ja
tehdäkseen sitä, mikä on pahaa Herran, meidän
Jumalamme, silmissä.
KAPPALE 2
1 Sentähden Herra on toteuttanut sanansa, jonka hän
julisti meitä vastaan ja meidän tuomareitamme vastaan,
jotka Israelia tuomitsivat, ja meidän kuninkaitamme ja
ruhtinaamme vastaan ja Israelin ja Juudan miehiä
vastaan,
2 Tuottamaan meille suuria vitsauksia, joita ei ole
koskaan tapahtunut koko taivaan alla, niinkuin tapahtui
Jerusalemissa, sen mukaan, mikä oli kirjoitettuna
Mooseksen laissa;
minne Herra on heidät hajottanut.
kuvitelmista.
9 Sentähden Herra vartioi meistä pahaa, ja Herra on
saattanut sen meidän päällemme; sillä Herra on
vanhurskas kaikissa teoissaan, jotka hän on meille
käskenyt.
10 Mutta me emme ole kuulleet hänen ääntänsä
vaeltaaksemme Herran käskyjen mukaan, jotka hän on
meille antanut.
12 Herra, meidän Jumalamme, me olemme tehneet
syntiä, me olemme tehneet jumalattomuutta, olemme
tehneet väärin kaikissa sinun säädöksissäsi.
13 Kääntyköön vihasi meistä, sillä meitä on vain vähän
jäljellä pakanain seassa, minne sinä meidät hajoitit.
14 Kuule, Herra, rukouksemme ja rukouksemme ja
pelasta meidät sinun tähtesi ja anna meille armo niiden
edessä, jotka ovat vienyt meidät pois.
15 Että koko maa tietäisi, että sinä olet Herra, meidän
Jumalamme, koska Israel ja hänen jälkeläisensä on
kutsuttu sinun nimelläsi.
16 Herra, katso alas pyhästä huoneestasi ja katso meitä;
Herra.
19 Sentähden me emme nöyrästi rukoile sinun edessäsi,
Herra, meidän Jumalamme, isiemme ja
kuningastemme vanhurskauden puolesta.
20 Sillä sinä olet lähettänyt vihasi ja suuttumuksesi
meidän yllemme, niinkuin olet puhunut palvelijoidesi,
profeettojen kautta, sanoen:
Baabelin kuningasta,
23 Minä lopetan Juudan kaupungeista ja Jerusalemin
ulkopuolelta ilon äänen ja ilon äänen, sulhanen äänen
ja morsiamen äänen, ja koko maa tulee autioksi.
asukkaat.
24 Mutta me emme tahtoneet kuulla sinun ääntäsi
palvellaksemme Baabelin kuningasta. Sentähden olet
tehnyt oikeiksi ne sanat, jotka olet puhunut
palvelijoidesi, profeettojen, kautta, nimittäin että
kuninkaidemme luut ja isiemme luut viedään pois
paikaltaan.
25 Ja katso, heidät karkotetaan päivän helteeseen ja
yön pakkaseseen, ja he kuolivat suurissa kurjissa
suuri joukko muuttuu pieneksi joukoksi kansojen
seassa, minne minä heidät hajotan.
30 Sillä minä tiesin, etteivät he minua kuule, sillä se on
niskakansa; mutta vankeutensa maassa he muistavat
itseään.
31 Ja he tietävät, että minä olen Herra, heidän
Jumalansa; sillä minä annan heille sydämen ja korvat
kuulla.
32 Ja he ylistävät minua vankeutensa maassa ja
ajattelevat minun nimeäni,
33 ja palatkaa heidän niskaansa ja pahoista teoistansa,
sillä he muistavat isiensä teitä, jotka ovat tehneet syntiä
Herran edessä.
34 Ja minä tuon heidät takaisin siihen maahan, jonka
minä vannoin vannoen heidän isillensä, Abrahamille,
Iisakille ja Jaakobille, ja he tulevat olemaan sen herrat;
ja minä lisään heitä, eivätkä he katoa.
35 Ja minä teen heidän kanssaan iankaikkisen liiton,
että olen heidän Jumalansa, ja he ovat minun kansani;
enkä minä enää karkoita Israelin kansaani pois maasta,
jonka minä olen heille antanut.
LUKU 3
1 Herra Kaikkivaltias, Israelin Jumala, sielu
ahdistuksessa, levoton henki, huutaa sinua avuksesi.
3 Sillä sinä pysyt ijankaikkisesti, ja me hukumme
peräti.
4 Oi Herra Kaikkivaltias, sinä Israelin Jumala, kuule
nyt kuolleiden israelilaisten ja heidän lastensa
rukoukset, jotka ovat tehneet syntiä sinun edessäsi
eivätkä ole kuunnelleet sinun Jumalasi ääntä; .
5 Älä muista esi-isiemme pahoja tekoja, vaan ajattele
voimaasi ja nimeäsi nyt tällä hetkellä.
6 Sillä sinä olet Herra, meidän Jumalamme, ja sinua,
Herra, me ylistämme.
7 Sentähden sinä olet pannut pelkosi sydämiimme,
jotta me huutaisimme avuksi sinun nimeäsi ja
ylistäisimme sinua vankeudessamme; sillä olemme
saaneet mieleen kaiken esi-isiemme pahan, jotka ovat
tehneet syntiä sinun edessäsi.
8 Katso, me olemme vielä tänäkin päivänä
vankeudessamme, minne sinä olet meidät hajottanut
häväistykseksi ja kiroukseksi ja maksun alaiseksi
kaikkien isiemme syntien mukaan, jotka ovat eronneet
Herrasta, meidän Jumalastamme.
9 Kuule, Israel, elämän käskyt: ota korvasi
ymmärtämään viisautta.
10 Kuinka tapahtuu Israel, että olet vihollistesi maassa,
että olet vanhentunut vieraassa maassa, että olet
kuolleiden saastuttama,
11 Että sinut luetaan niiden joukkoon, jotka menevät
hautaan?
12 Sinä olet hylännyt viisauden lähteen.
4. 13 Sillä jos olisit vaeltanut Jumalan tietä, sinun olisi
pitänyt asua rauhassa ikuisesti.
14 Oppikaa, missä on viisaus, missä on voima, missä
päällä, mutta tiedon tietä he eivät tunne,
ja he hukkuivat oman hulluutensa tähden.
on hyödyllistä, vieraalle kansalle.
4 Oi, Israel, me olemme autuaat, sillä se, mikä on
Jumalalle otollista, on tullut meille tiedoksi.
5 Ole hyvällä mielellä, kansani, Israelin muistomerkki.
6 Teidät on myyty kansoille, ei teidän tuhoksenne,
vaan koska te vihastuitte Jumalan, te olette annetut
asuvat! Jumala on tuonut minulle suuren surun;
10 Sillä minä näin poikieni ja tyttärieni vankeuden,
jonka iankaikkinen toi heille.
11 Minä ravisin heitä ilolla; vaan lähetti heidät pois
itkien ja murheiden kanssa.
12 Älköön kukaan iloitko minusta, leskestä ja monen
hylkäämästä, joka minun lasteni syntien tähden jään
autioksi; koska he ovat luopuneet Jumalan laista.
13 He eivät tunteneet hänen säädöksiään, eivätkä
vaeltaneet hänen käskyjensä teitä, eivätkä astuneet
kurin polkuja hänen vanhurskaudessaan.
14 Tulkoot Siionin ympärillä asuvat ja muistakaa
minun poikieni ja tyttärieni vankeutta, jonka
iankaikkinen on tuonut heille.
iankaikkisesti.
5. 24 Niinkuin nyt Siionin naapurit ovat nähneet sinun
vankeutesi, niin he pian näkevät sinun pelastuksesi
sinun lankeemuksestasi.
32 Kurjat ovat kaupungit, joita sinun lapsesi palvelivat;
aikaa.
36 Jerusalem, katso ympärillesi itään päin ja katso iloa,
joka tulee sinulle Jumalalta.
37 Katso, sinun poikasi tulevat, jotka sinä lähetät pois,
he kokoontuvat idästä länteen Pyhän sanan kautta,
iloitseen Jumalan kirkkaudesta.
LUKU 5
1 Riisu, Jerusalem, surun ja ahdistuksen vaippa ja
pukeudu päällesi sen kirkkauden kauneus, joka
Jumalalta tulee iankaikkisesti.
2 Pue päällesi kaksinkertainen vaippa sen
vanhurskauden, joka Jumalalta tulee; ja aseta päähäsi
diadeemi iankaikkisen kirkkauden.
3 Sillä Jumala näyttää sinun kirkkautesi kaikille maille
taivaan alla.
4 Sillä sinun nimeäsi pitää kutsuttaman Jumalalta
ijankaikkisesti vanhurskauden rauhaksi ja Jumalan
palvonnan kunniaksi.
he iloitsevat Jumalan muistosta.
6 Sillä he lähtivät sinun tyköäsi jalan, ja vihollisensa
karkoittivat heidät; mutta Jumala tuo heidät sinun
tykösi kirkkaudessa korotettuina, niinkuin valtakunnan
lapset.
7 Sillä Jumala on säätänyt, että kaikki korkeat kukkulat
ja pitkäkestoiset rannat kaadetaan alas ja laaksot
täytetään maan tasoiseksi, jotta Israel voisi kulkea
turvallisesti Jumalan kirkkaudessa,
