Craig Clayton has over 30 years of experience leading companies. He founded J D Rush Corporation in 2003 to distribute oil and gas pipes in the US on an exclusive basis for a Chinese manufacturer. Under his leadership, J D Rush Corporation saw cumulative earnings of $98.1 million on $2.9 billion in sales over 12 years. However, a historic drop in oil prices in 2015 caused losses from inventory devaluations. He also founded a golf retail business that has become the largest in its market and an oil well company that uses chemicals to increase oil production.

This document discusses mixing active and passive investments by analyzing the performance of S&P 500 index funds (SPSP) and large-cap core funds (LCCE) over 20 years. It finds that using a technical indicator called MACD to trigger movements between SPSP and LCCE funds based on whether active funds were outperforming provided higher returns than either approach alone. Specifically, a portfolio that moved between SPSP and LCCE based on MACD signals achieved an average annual return of 11.92%, compared to 11.36% for SPSP alone and 10.84% for LCCE alone.

This document summarizes the software integration strategy used for an Alaska oil regulatory system. The strategy integrated disparate legacy database applications through a service-oriented architecture with autonomous components. A key part was establishing a "system of record" to store standardized data in one location with services providing CRUD functionality. An example application built was a Non Tank Vessel Contingency Plan system that integrated affiliation, document, and vessel data from independent services and objects. The integration improved data access, quality and decision support capabilities for the oil industry regulations.

Submarine cables - Structuring and Financing Options Jan 2015_finalDominique Reverdy
- Submarine cable projects require large upfront capital expenditures for construction that are paid to manufacturers and contractors, as well as ongoing operational costs until revenue from capacity sales is generated.
- Typical construction timeframes are 1-3 years, though ready for service dates are often delayed from initial plans due to non-technical factors.
- Capital expenditures follow an S-curve with most spending occurring in the middle of construction, though actual payments can differ significantly from planned schedules.
Submarine cables structuring and financing optionsAmy Walls
This document discusses structuring and financing options for submarine cable projects. It begins by outlining typical funding requirements, including capital expenditures for cable building pre- and post-ready for service dates, as well as ongoing operational expenditures. It then examines approaches for selecting and managing stakeholders, including potential partner types and analyzing their power and interests. Different ownership structures like private, consortium and public-private partnerships are overviewed. The document concludes by discussing financing options such as project financing, vendor financing and pre-sales.
The document discusses legacy monolithic applications and the challenges of migrating them to the cloud. It notes that 80% of actively used code is in COBOL and that enterprise applications are large, complex, and long-lived. Many organizations expect cloud migrations to take over a year to complete. The document recommends analyzing the application portfolio and individual applications using CAST software to understand architecture and define a migration roadmap. CAST software can reverse engineer applications, provide insights into architecture and data flow, and identify remediation opportunities to enable the transformation journey.

This is the second edition of Machine Learning and Language. If it seems to be almost identical to the initial version, which focused on a different area of science, that's the point...
Human Resources is often the last beneficiary of Business Intelligence/Data Analytics at most enterprises. This fact is almost counterintuitive - Human Resources provides the most valuable asset at any enterprise - human capital. It is time for a paradigm-shift. GITS is offering a proven, known methodology to optimize Workforce Continuity and realize cost-savings.
This brief presentation provides a high level perspective of the benefits of machine learning, its impact on unstructured and structured data, and how the aspects of language are important
This document provides an overview of business intelligence concepts including data mining, BI tools, and demonstrating ROI. It discusses that data mining involves methodically extracting knowledge from data, not just extracting data, and is part of business intelligence. It also summarizes Gartner's Magic Quadrant ratings of top BI tools and notes that tools are not silver bullets and success depends on the capabilities of the team using them. Finally, it outlines leveraging connections between business elements and demonstrating continuous ROI as two key concepts for offsetting rising costs with business intelligence.

Vicinity Jobs’ data includes more than three million 2023 OJPs and thousands of skills. Most skills appear in less than 0.02% of job postings, so most postings rely on a small subset of commonly used terms, like teamwork.
Laura Adkins-Hackett, Economist, LMIC, and Sukriti Trehan, Data Scientist, LMIC, presented their research exploring trends in the skills listed in OJPs to develop a deeper understanding of in-demand skills. This research project uses pointwise mutual information and other methods to extract more information about common skills from the relationships between skills, occupations and regions.
In a tight labour market, job-seekers gain bargaining power and leverage it into greater job quality—at least, that’s the conventional wisdom.
Michael, LMIC Economist, presented findings that reveal a weakened relationship between labour market tightness and job quality indicators following the pandemic. Labour market tightness coincided with growth in real wages for only a portion of workers: those in low-wage jobs requiring little education. Several factors—including labour market composition, worker and employer behaviour, and labour market practices—have contributed to the absence of worker benefits. These will be investigated further in future work.
Independent Study - College of Wooster Research (2023-2024) FDI, Culture, Glo...AntoniaOwensDetwiler
"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
2. On Star Trek, the Bridge is the focal point of information
from the various areas of the ship
From the Bridge, the Captain is aware of everything that
can potentially effect his ship (“Hull Breach, Deck 11,
Captain!”)
Information must be integrated from various areas of the
ship in order to make the information readily available to
the stations of the Bridge
The Captain and his officers are able to make split-second
decisions based on the readiness of information

Inadequate resources are invested in building

way, there is a belief that this method is
‘effective’, thus a Bridge is not needed
