1. Left Turn Storage Lane
| Urban and Infrastructure Engineering Department | Ned University of Engineering and Technology Karachi |
Problem
Congestion at NED University’s Main Gate during
peak hours
Hypothesis
• Add more lanes at the entrances after shifting existing banks
but it will cost money
• Provide a separate lane for Point but it will disturb the
equilibrium
• Restrict personal vehicles to avoid congestion but It is not a
permanent solution
Project Approach
1. Less Investment
2. Speedy solution
3. Provide better facility
4. Minimize travel time
5. Avoid accidents of pedestrians
6. Utilize available facilities to get maximum benefit
7. Safety and Security

Benefits
Left Turn Storage Lane:
It is the lane required to
store the number of
vehicles expected to
accumulate in the lane
during an average peak
period.
Results
Conclusion
• One report suggests that adding a left turn lane
increases approach capacity by approximately 25%
• The Federal Highway Administration has found crashes
can be expected to decrease 10% to 44% after
installing a left turn lane
• It is concluded that by providing the left turn storage
lane and by endowing the separate gate at the parking
area will solve problem regarding congestion and
security
