The Young Innovators Association (YIA) was founded in 2004 to stimulate research and development (R&D) in Egypt. YIA provides annual awards to fund university student research projects and prototypes. It also offers traineeships to help scientific startups commercialize. YIA has benefited over 3,700 students across 19 universities. Past award winners have developed successful products and startups. However, Egypt spends only 0.25% of its GDP on R&D, ranking 50th out of 53 countries. YIA seeks to address this by raising awareness, encouraging innovation, and connecting researchers to the market.
