REVISION TACTICS
The final push
Created by Jennifer Zellner of University of Cincinnati
GLOBAL REVISIONS – CONTENT
 Make sure that you use
thesis/support structure
 This means that your essay is
designed around supporting your
thesis.
 This also means that your essay is
organized as a persuasive argument,
advocating for your point of view.
GLOBAL REVISIONS – STRUCTURE
 Consider how you have
organized your essay.
 Is it the most effective
method of organization?
 Play around with a
different form of
organization, see if that
different organization
changes the focus of
your essay.
GLOBAL REVISIONS – TRANSITIONS
 Now that you’ve tried a new form of organization,
make sure that your transitions are strong.
 Use Old before New to tie ideas together.
 Remember the ideas of forecasting and fulfillment.
GLOBAL REVISIONS – SIGNPOSTS
 Make sure that your opening sentence, thesis
statement, and topic sentences all function as
signposts.
GLOBAL REVISIONS – RHETORICAL APPEALS
 Go through your paper with three different colored
pens/markers.
 Highlight/underline moments where you use ethos,
pathos, and logos.
 Look at the different colors, are they well balanced?
