This study aims to analyze the reduction of disulfide linkages in aggregated bovine gamma globulin using SDS-PAGE. Bovine gamma globulin and serum albumin will be incubated at pH 2.5 to form amyloid fibrils. SDS-PAGE will then be used to analyze the proteins under reducing and non-reducing conditions before and after aggregation. It is hypothesized that gamma globulin will break into fewer heavy and light chains after aggregation due to buried disulfide linkages. Results will be presented in March 2017 to further understand amyloid fibril formation and diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
