The music video will feature an artist lip syncing and dancing to the song in a music video studio. There will be quick cuts between different shots of the artist in various outfits. During the bridge, the artist's silhouette will be shown dancing in front of bright lighting to reference the lyrics. At the end, the artist will walk off set as the video fades to black. Resources needed include a camcorder, lighting equipment, costumes, and a studio set. The performance-based concept was chosen based on audience research indicating a preference for remaking an existing song and depicting the artist as fun and confident.
1. Final Music Video Treatment
Outline of ideas
My group’s music video will be performance based. The video is not based around a narrative but in some
parts of the song there will be direct addresses to the audience and references to lyrics. The video will
open with our main actor who is representing the artist, walking on set to a music video filming studio.
The artist will then be denoted from various different shots and in different outfits in studio lip singing
and dancing on screen. There will be quick cuts of different shots throughout the video.
During the bridge of the song our artists silhouette will be denoted dancing onscreen, in front of bright
lighting. My group has chose to do this as it’s a reference to the song lyrics ‘dancing in the moonlight’ and
we felt that as the song slows down the video should reflect the change in pace. The only focus would be
the artist and when the bridge finishes the video will cut back to the studio scene where the artist will
continue to perform for the last few versions of the chorus.
I will use a variety of shots, in my video, mainly when the artist is performing, in order to keep the video
entertaining. For example I will use close ups and extreme close ups to show off the artists make up, and
medium and long shots to show off the artists clothing, as this is a convention of pop music videos.
The lighting will be bright for most of the video as we are trying to replicate a film studio environment. So
bright spot lights will be used. In the bridge the lighting will alter slightly and become more blue hued and
darker to reflect ‘moonlight’ and the change in mood.
As the song finishes, the video will fade to black, and the artist will be denoted walking off set. This
concept of our video is related to an artist motif where Jessie J is denoted walking onto her ‘Wild’ video
and in many of her music videos she is denoted pushing the film camera away with her hands. We’ve
chosen to incorporate this into our video to connote our star as being rebellious.

Justification for my ideas
There a number of reasons for choosing this concept. My group and I underwent a lot of research in order
to determine what our target audience wanted to see in our music video. 49% of those who took our
audience questionnaire said they would like to see us remake ‘Domino’. Also the majority of our audience
were aged 15-17. It is typical that around this age it would be more appealing to watch a performance
video as opposed to something more low key.
Also when we asked our audience to describe Jessie J in three words one common response we got, was
fun and confident, so we have decided to make her denote our star with this persona through the
performance element of the video.
The reason behind choosing to not include a strong narrative in our video was because although, 70% of
our target audience said they would prefer to see narrative in a music video, as a group we felt it could be
unrealistic and badly filmed. We decided to exclude a party scene in our video because it could be
difficult to stage and hard to find actors to make it seem like a realistic party. Lighting could also be a large
problem when filming a party narrative. In further research we discovered that performance is a key pop
music video convention and so we’ve decided to focus on performance in our video. We’d like to include
other conventions like product placement and dance routines into our video to meet more conventions of
the pop genre.
2. Also when we asked the audience what colour theme we should use, they suggested colours such as pink,
purple, gold and blue, which is why we have decided to have coloured costumes/party clothes in our
video.
