This study investigated elementary school students' literacy practices related to mass cultural texts and how these are incorporated into Greek language teaching. A survey of 165 5th-6th grade students found they have easy access to media like TV and the internet and frequently watch TV programs and surf online. However, the researchers found Greek language textbooks and teaching practices do not currently take into account students' experiences with these mass cultural genres. The findings could help propose incorporating more mass cultural texts into the teaching material to better engage students and connect in-school and out-of-school literacy.

CONGRATULATIONS ON BRAZILIAN ENGINEER'S DAY.pdfFaga1939
Today, December 11, is celebrated the Day of the Engineer whose profession was regulated in Brazil by President Getúlio Vargas through Decree 23,569, of December 11, 1933, which also created the Federal Council of Engineering, Architecture and Agronomy (CONFEA) and the Regional Councils of Engineering, Architecture and Agronomy (CREA), responsible for overseeing the profession. It is known that Engineering is present in the entire productive sector, namely: in factories, in housing and infrastructure construction sites, in universities, in scientific laboratories, in technological research centers, in transport, in energy generation, in communications, in food production, among other undertakings. The great changes that have been taking place in people's lives, in the modern world, were generated by technology that is fed by accumulated knowledge and large investments in research and innovation. Humanity needs Engineering because it transforms the knowledge accumulated in universities and research centers, public and private, into products and services available to society.

In the last decades, we have all witnessed a series of
dramatic, universal changes and developments affecting
cities – their morphology, environment, economies,
and societies. Global new conditions such as economic
internationalisation, European integration and the
creation of urban networks and hierarchies ; post– indu -
strial economies of culture and technologies; conscious-
ness of environmental degradation and the necessity of
green design and sustainable development; information
societies, increasing mobility of individuals and 'space
time' compression; growing terrorism attacks and new
security infrastructures of public spaces; increasing
migrations and cultural diversity of individuals, and co-
existence in multi – ethnic and multi-cultural urban socie-
ties. In this new milieu, cities change themselves to ad
hoc adapt into new conditions while simultaneously
scholars and practitioners in planning and design
attempt to change cities so as to better fit into new
conditions.
