Assisting the elderly, chronically ill and physically disabled people with all aspects of
their daily living, while promoting as much independence as possible.
As a personal assistant, assisting a young woman with an (ABI) Aquired Brain Injury
once a week with swimming and other activities, helping her to keep to schedules
and making decisions.
Also assisted a young woman with a physical disability, living in independent living
with attending college, social outings, business meetings and all other aspects of
daily living. It also involved filling in care plans, hand-overs during PA swap overs and
incident report forms.
As part of my role as PA, I assisted on of my clients with volunteering for Westside
Arts Festival with various activities.

2. College Projects and Work Placements
Year 4 Dissertation: “What are the experiences and needs of people diagnosed with
early onset dementia?”
Skills developed from this project:
Time management: Planning out schedules for work on this dissertation as well as
planning meetings with my supervisor. Very interesting project. Grade: B+
Asperger’s syndrome: Work Placement Year one with Rehabcare Galway
A total of 60 hours assigned to working with six adults with Asperger’s syndrome to
learn more about the autismspectrum, learn about their routines and liaise with
members of staff
Skills developed from this placement:
Risk assessments: Learning to deal with situations where adults with Asperger’s
Syndrome produced challenging behaviour.
Communication: Learning to identify the range of different personalities of the
individuals with Asperger’s syndrome and take part in activities such as cooking, walking
and other social activities

Hobbies/Interests
I enjoy swimming and volunteer for team South Galway Special Olympics in Kilcornan
swimming pool every Wednesday evening, supervising young adults and children with Down
syndrome and intellectual disabilities, with swimming activities. I also volunteer once a
week in Rainbow Academy preschool and afterschool services in Cullairbaun, Athenry,
Co.Galway, assisting with the children’s learning through play and other activities.
