This document outlines the requirements for a final project on the novel "Tears of a Tiger". The project involves creating a novel booklet with multiple components. It will be completed over 5 class days. The booklet must include: a colorful front cover relating to the novel (20 pts); 5 images/words from the novel with explanatory paragraphs (25 pts); a 3 paragraph essay on a chosen topic (30 pts); and a back cover with a minimum 5 sentence book review giving an opinion, favorite part, recommendation, and reason (25 pts). The total points possible is 100.

1. Tears of a Tiger Final Project

Your final project for the novel Tears of a Tiger will be to create a novel booklet. The
booklet will have several different components with different options for you to choose.
You will have 5 class days to complete this project.
Part A (Front Cover) 20pts: On the front cover of your booklet, you will create an image
for the novel. You can recreate the book cover; create a movie image for book, or
another image for the book (NOTE: If you choose another image be prepared to
explain what it means)
To receive full points the cover must:
• Be neat and colorful
• Contain book title and author
• Relate to the novel
• Fill the entire page
Part B (Inside 1st
Half) 25 pts: Choose 5 images/words that connect to themes,
passages or characters from the novel. For each of those 5 images/words you will
write a short paragraph (3 sentences) about how that image/word relates (connects) to
the novel.
To receive full points:
• Must have 5 images/words
• Paragraph must have little/no grammatical errors
• Paragraph is at least 3 sentences
• Image should be colorful
Part C (Inside 2nd
Half) 30 pts: You will write a 3-paragraph essay on ONE of the
following topics. Remember DO NOT to write in your booklet until you have completely
edited and revised your essay.

1. Describe Andy’s gradual fall into depression. Discuss the major and minor events
that happened throughout the novel that made Andy commit suicide. Could Andy’s
death been prevented? How? What are the reactions of Andy’s friends to his death?
How do those reactions make the point that life is always a better solution than death?

2. 2. Basketball is a source of physical release for Andy, but it also raises strong feelings
of guilt. He loves the game, but also feels guilty that he is given Rob’s position on the
team – a position that Andy was never good enough to win when Rob was alive. How
are sports important in the lives of young people? What positive as well as negative
results can sports play in the life of a teenager?
Part D (Back Cover) 25 pts: On the back cover you will write a book review. Your
review must be at least 5 sentences and answer the following questions: Did you like
the book? What was your favorite (or least favorite) part of the novel? Why? Who
would you recommend this book to and why?
