This document presents a proposed methodology for helping visually impaired individuals identify Indian currency denominations independently. It involves using a simple, locally-fabricable device that senses the number of dots along the edge of a note to determine the denomination. Notes have a unique number of dots corresponding to their value, from zero dots for 1000 rupee notes down to four dots for 10 rupee notes. The device costs approximately 2 rupees, is very portable, requires no batteries or technical skills, and allows identification of any note value. It provides an affordable, effective solution unavailable currently. Future improvements could include printing notes with Braille identification.
