Using films is an effective way to improve French listening skills. The author watched Paris Nous Appartient and Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain with no subtitles, English subtitles, and finally French subtitles. Watching with French subtitles was most helpful for understanding context, spelling, and recognizing words in future exams. Re-watching without subtitles showed listening comprehension had improved. While films can develop skills, the author recognizes a need to expand vocabulary by taking notes and finding new methods.
