 Similes use words “like” or “as” to
compare
 Similes are a figure of speech that
compares two things that are not similar
Examples of Similes

 She is as sweet as a cupcake.
 He run as fast as a cheetah.
 He plays baseball as good as Babe Ruth.

 Her eyes were glowing like a big beam of light.
 The paint was blue like the ocean.
 The flower smelled like fresh perfume.
 A metaphor is a
word or phrase that
is used to make a
comparison
between two things.
 It mostly uses words:
like is, are, was, and
were.
Examples:
She is a shining star.
Her eyes were fireflies.
She arrived with an army of
children.
Time is a thief.
Her soft voice was music to his
heart.

 Personification is
when you take
something that is
not alive and can’t
move and you add
human qualities in
a sentence,
making it sound like
that thing is alive.

Alliteration
 Alliteration is when
a sentence has the
same beginning
sound in each
word.
Examples
Peter Piper
Picked a Peck
of Pickled
Peppers.
Sally Sells
Seashells by the
Seasore.
