1. Figurative Artists Sculptures
Mardie Rees
I chose the artist above because I liked the noticeable differences between each sculpture, the
stance and position and the way they were set out. The first image of a man and his dog companion
interested me mainly because of the animals’ presence in the piece. I thought it was unique as most
figurative artists only included the human body in their artwork.
The second image I found intriguing because of the buffed, smooth detailing, the dense portrait
layout and the pose involved. I also liked the reflective qualities worked into the piece, which only
add to the lifelike image. The third image is very similar to the second, and so I enjoy the work for
similar reasons.
2. Richard & Jodi Creager: professional doll and sculpture creators.
These pieces of work stand out for me mainly because of the intense realism and detail put into the
work, also the models for the sculptures are not just of outlines or abstract forms of figures, but are
supposed to be based on a specific person. The first image is obviously based on the jazz legend Billie
Holiday. I enjoy that piece the most because it captures her character and personality well whilst still
remaining realistic.
The last two pictures appeal to me for similar reasons as the first, the main reason being how
realistic and inspiring the pieces are. I enjoy the head dresses and tribal accessories the most, the
facial expressions also in their own right are impressive as are the realistic materials for the clothing
accessories.
3. Dale Dunning
I chose this artist in particular because I find the pieces of work he does intriguing and unique. The
sculptures include elements of realism but also include an abstract feel to them, with the spiralling
effect and the leaves shrouding them.
Adam Reeder
I enjoy this artist because his sculptures are ironic and unique in their own right. Each piece is shows
great imagination and is a good, individual take on the Greek myths of Atlas, Zeus and Pan. The
different colours and use of materials is refreshing and the poses reflect the strong and inhuman
power and ability of each god.
4. Philippe Faraut
I chose this artist because his work was fresh and focused intently on realism and capturing the
models’ personality. For those particular reasons I found these pieces appealing. As they are all very
similar to each other including the fact they are all female, and are black/black decent. It is almost as
if the images are telling the story of one woman’s life taking snapshots throughout at different ages,
from young to elderly. This is why Philippe Faraut is my favourite sculptor out of all of the ones I
have picked.
CJ Peltz
I enjoy these sculptures because of the bold contrast in colours by the differential use of materials
including bronze and blue. The first image, so called the ‘leap of faith’, shows that there is a story
behind it, also because of the surrounding environment including the rooftop ledge. The second
sculpture was created, inspired by the phobia of heights. This piece shows an innovative
imagination; how the stage balances one sided on a round surface that is unstable and could topple
the structure in moments, and how the woman who could possibly suffer from such a fear of heights
is possibly facing up to it.
