The voiding diary provides physicians with useful information about a patient's condition by having them record details of fluid intake, voiding, and urine leakage over multiple days. Patients are instructed to note the time, amount voided or leaked, activity, and fluid intake for each occurrence in the diary and return it to their doctor at their next appointment. An example entry is provided to demonstrate how to complete the diary correctly.
This document describes a new type of battery that is safer and longer-lasting than current lithium-ion batteries. It works by using sodium ions rather than lithium ions and two different liquids to prevent fires. Sodium is more abundant than lithium, which could help lower battery costs. Initial tests show the new design can charge and discharge hundreds of times without issues.

This document discusses overactive bladder (OAB). It defines OAB as a symptom syndrome characterized by urgency, with or without urge incontinence, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia. The prevalence of OAB is estimated to be around 16-17% globally. Common causes include problems with the pelvic floor muscles, nervous system issues, and other factors. OAB can negatively impact quality of life by limiting physical, sexual, occupational, social, domestic, and psychological activities. Treatment involves behavioral modifications, pharmacotherapy such as anticholinergic medications, and in some cases neuromodulation procedures or surgery.
The document discusses bladder retraining for overactive bladder. It provides objectives to equip individuals with self-mastery tools to retrain their bladders, empower them as healthcare advocates, and understand combination therapy. It then describes overactive bladder and its causes, treatments including behavioral changes and bladder retraining. Bladder retraining is a six-week program where individuals time their urination to gradually increase the time between trips to the bathroom. Tips are provided to help stick with the program and manage any setbacks. Resources from the North American Menopause Society are also shared.
The document provides information about overactive bladder, including its symptoms, causes, diagnosis, and treatment options. It defines overactive bladder as a group of urinary symptoms rather than a disease. The major symptom is a sudden urge to urinate that is difficult to delay. Causes include abnormal neurological signals between the bladder and brain that trigger emptying even when the bladder is not full. Treatments include behavioral changes, medications to relax the bladder muscle, Botox injections, and complex surgeries for severe cases.
Clinical approach to urinary incontinenceYasmin Saidat
This document discusses the definition, pharmacology, history taking, physical exam findings, investigations, and management of different types of urinary incontinence. It defines stress, urge, overflow, sensory, and bypass fistula incontinence. For each type, it describes the etiology, history, exam findings, investigation results, and management approaches including behavioral modifications, medications, injections, and surgeries. Key investigations discussed are urinalysis, bladder diary, urodynamic studies measuring post-void residual volume, uroflow, pressure flow studies, and cystometrogram. The goal of management is to treat any underlying causes and reduce symptoms through conservative or surgical methods depending on the incontinence type and severity.
The document discusses anger management and controlling anger. It notes that the Bible says feeling anger is akin to murder. Anger is a signal that something is wrong but does not solve problems. There are three options when confronting anger: reacting angrily, becoming aware of your feelings, or controlling your intensity. Major causes of anger include dependency issues, resentment, grief, victim mentality, and abuse. The document provides ten steps for controlling anger, such as making a list of anger triggers, talking about your feelings, breathing exercises, and changing negative thoughts. Myths about anger include that it must be expressed or it will explode, while facts are that anger occurs on a spectrum and does not work like steam in a kettle.
Management of postmenopausal syndrome with a herbal extract: a pilot studyYounis I Munshi
- A pilot study was conducted of 30 women to evaluate the efficacy of a herbal extract in treating postmenopausal syndrome.
- The herbal extract was made from Nepeta cataria and Cuscuta reflexa herbs and administered twice daily for 60 days.
- The average Blatt-Kupperman score, a measure of menopausal symptoms, decreased from 41.2 at baseline to 6.43 after treatment, representing an 84% reduction in symptoms.
- The study demonstrated the herbal extract significantly decreased menopausal symptoms but larger studies are still needed.
From Silos to Legos presents a new healthcare delivery paradigm that moves away from the traditional siloed approach. The current system operates like separate silos that don't communicate, but the new paradigm envisions a more integrated approach where all parts work together like interlocking Lego blocks. This aims to improve care coordination and reduce waste. The presentation discusses how policies and programs can help dismantle silos and build more connections between different areas of the healthcare system.

The project analyzed and measured the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) and Reserves reenlistment and extension process. Key improvements included reducing the number of extension steps by 90% and standardizing the process through a new Standard Operating Procedure. This led to quicker monitoring, identification, and accession of qualified reenlistees.

The document discusses the use of different hydrological models. It notes that while every hydrologist would like a single model, different problems require different levels of detail. As such, various models are used, including GEOtop for fully distributed, grid-based modeling; NewAge for large-scale hillslope-stream modeling and anthropic infrastructures; Boussinesq for fully coupled subsurface-surface modeling; and PeakFlow for GIUH and peak flood modeling. The models each have their own appropriate applications and levels of detail.

Kegel exercises strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor by contracting and relaxing the perineal muscles. Regular practice of Kegel exercises can help prepare for childbirth, prevent urinary incontinence from coughing or laughing, and maintain good pelvic floor health throughout life. The exercises involve locating and contracting the perineal muscles for 5-10 seconds, relaxing for 10 seconds, and repeating 12-20 times in a session done 3-4 times per day.
Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
