This document summarizes the renovation of a 1950s colonial home in Greenwich, Connecticut by architect and builder Evan Goldenberg. He completely redesigned and rebuilt the home, choosing durable natural materials like limestone, oak, brass, and granite. He paid close attention to detail throughout. During construction, a crawl space was accidentally excavated deeper, allowing Goldenberg to add an unexpected but impressive 2,000 bottle wine cellar. The finished home is elegant yet comfortable and built to last.

A million dollar view! This luxury home overlooking conservation land in exclusive Gordon Woods soars 100 feet above the Credit River. When the trees lose their leaves the prestigious Mississauga Golf and Country Club is visible in the distance. Privacy. Luxury. An entertainment playground designed for families (there's a putting green on the side lawn!). It's all here. Homeowners May and Francis are well aware that their reno rivals the atmosphere of a high-end resort — that's exactly how they planned it.
Phoenix is well known for incorporating distinctive
design approaches into uniquely modern
southwestern homes. One needs to look no further
than this incredible residence to see the success of
such an approach.
With an exterior oasis that contrasts the stark desert
surround, the interior of the home boasts powerful
natural stone walls throughout the bedrooms and
common areas, while the bright open layout of the
master bathroom showcases how pebbles, wood
and glass can be combined to create an enviable
modern environment.
It is about respect. A respect for the natural beauty of cedar. The way its grain and
the marks of a mill saw interact with sunlight. How those random patterns give a
home its own unique character. How techniques and knowledge hundreds of years
old can still bring forth innovations, like an exterior siding never seen before.

Let us be the first to agree with you, wood siding is beautiful on a home. But it’s a
beauty that quickly succumbs to the elements. Cracking, fading, buckling, rotting.
It is a look that is expensive and time consuming to maintain.
Alside offers a family of exterior siding that eliminates the need to
compromise aesthetics for practicality. Architectural Shingles, Shakes, Staggered
Shakes, and Scallops will endow your home with all the timeless beauty of wood
rendered in a man-made material that is maintenance free and easy to install.
Cr a f t s m a n s h i p a n d t e c h n o l o g y.
We love the look of wood. It is the inspiration for this completely proprietary
process. With nearly 100 unique molds, taken from actual cedar shakes and
shingles, each home is individually beautiful.
No other manufacturer is as committed to rendering the natural, random beauty
of cedar as Alside.

E van Goldenberg draws a fine line and swings a mean hammer.
In 1990, Goldenberg made a professional decision that allows him to blur the
distinction between designing a home and bringing it to life. He combined his dual

intended to keep the L-shaped layout, but after two
revisions, he decided against it.
Instead, he squared up the foundation and created
a lovely center-hall colonial, which he shares with his
wife, Rhonda, and their daughters, Lindsay and Amanda.

in the wine cellar to the width and depth of the Alaskan yellow cedar shingles on
the roof.
“Longevity” was the watchword for the materials that went into the home’s construc-
tion, but rather than relying on durable synthetics for easy maintenance, Goldenberg
specified the most-appropriate natural material for each particular application.
On the exterior, for example, in addition to the Alaskan cedar shingles, he used
lead-coated copper gutters and a combination of mahogany and Spanish cedar exterior
molding. Marvin extruded aluminum-clad windows were used throughout.

Inside, he combined the same attention to detail with
an extensive knowledge of which materials will last the
longest. In the foyer, for example, the lovely checkerboard
pattern of Gascogne beige and misty blue limestone is
supported by a “mud job” tiling method that insures
against cracks and supports the mechanics of the radi-
ant heating system. The floor is beautiful and virtually
maintenance free. “I thought I’d have to hire my kids
to get on their hands and knees with a stiff brush,” he
jokes, “but we’ve never cleaned it. Just vacuum, damp
mop, and it’s perfect.”
The kitchen is also a study in durability and natural
beauty. Two large slabs of Juparana Bordeaux granite

clear-lacquered cherry cabinetry. Handmade harlequin
