This document provides instructions for French language students to create a presentation about a French festival. Students are asked to research a festival, then create a slideshow presentation providing details about the location, timing, purpose, traditions, activities, food, costumes and a brief history. The presentation should include both visuals and written descriptions in French. Examples of French festivals are provided, as are verb conjugations and expressions to assist with the written component. A due date of April 17th is given, with the option to present live online through video conferencing.

22. French Festivals and Celebrations
✤ There are a number of interesting and unique festivals celebrated by French
cultures throughout the globe - from our own, in French Canada - such as
the Carnival d’Hiver, Montréal en Lumière, and the Acadian Festival, to
Bastille Day and the Menton Lemon Festival, among many others, in
France.

23. Your Mission, Should you choose to accept
it…
✤ Do a bit of research about a French Festival that interests you. Then,
present a slide show to share your findings with your peers. Give us a
virtual tour of the festival by highlighting activities, cultural artifacts and
historical information. Describe the location and timing of the festival, the
reason for the celebration, and a clear picture of the associated events.

✤ You have the ability to communicate in 3 verb tenses - past, present and future. Compose
detailed sentences, in French, to describe the images you choose to share. (You might
reflect on your Travelogues from the past, and follow this format.)
✤ Be sure to revise and edit your work, and leave your Google Translating to a minimum!!

✤ The basic expectation in a completed PowerPoint presentation. I am happy
to read your work, and edit from there. Simply complete your presentation
and attach it in an email to me!
✤ However, I would love to HEAR your presentation! There are a few ways to
accomplish this. a) you can voice over your slides and b) you can arrange a
time to meet with me through TEAMS for a video conference. This is fun! If
you email your presentation to me, I can share it with everyone while you
present! There is a French Channel within your classroom TEAM.

Double verb construction....
✤ eg. You can participate in games and entertainments
✤ Tu peux participer en jeux et divertissements.
✤ Verb 1 - pouvoir - is modified to become peux
✤ Verb 2 - is left in the infinitive - stays ‘participer’

✤ Tell us what we CAN (pouvoir) see and do at the festival
✤ Tell us what we MUST (devoir) see and do at the festival.
