This folk story from Turkey tells the legend of Ferhat and Şirin, two lovers in Amasya. Ferhat was a decorator who loved the Sultan's daughter, Şirin, and asked her father for permission to marry her. However, the Sultan gave Ferhat an impossible task - to bring water to the city from the mountains. Undaunted by the challenge, Ferhat began digging through the rocks to channel the water. When a witch tricked Ferhat into thinking Şirin had died, he took his own life out of grief. Upon hearing of Ferhat's death, Şirin also died of a broken heart.
