This presentation emphasizes African women contribution in the OpenStreetMap project despites challenges they are facing in their local communities. This document also brings some suggestions on how those women can be supported and engage other women.

2. Women In Africa
In Africa, women are considered as inferior to men and also
not able of playing leadership role in public life or in a
groups of people.
As a result, she has never been able to flourish in ease
without male support.
All traditions and customs have been developped to keep
women in the second role

❖ domestic chores (household, cooking, laundry) all
attributed to the woman preventing her from engaging
in active life for her own personal development
❖ There is also early marriage
❖ Lack of Solidarity between women
❖ No consideration for their points of views during
decisions Making.
4. Women Involment In OSM And ICT
In Africa
Despite these obstacles, women are determined to empower
themselves through OSM and ICTs.
In West Africa, there are very committed women working to
make change even if they remain underrepresented
