AS HISTÓRIAS QUE JESUS CONTOU - O BOM SAMARITANOFreekidstories

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
3. What is Feed My Lambs?
➽ Feed My Lambs is a program that introduces young children to the
Scriptures. It doubles as a complete memorization course. Feed My
Lambs makes learning about the primary principles in the Bible and
memorizing verses from the Bible easy and fun for young children.
The course includes six books with 90 simplified Bible verses, each
with a lively illustration that helps relate the verse to everyday life.
➽ The Bible verses in the Feed My Lambs course have been adapted
for young children from the King James Version in consultation
with several translations of the Bible, primarily the New King James
Version and the New International Version. Much prayer and attention
has been given to simplifying the vocabulary for young children
while retaining the meaning, and several translations were carefully
examined for each verse.
➽ Pronouns referring to God or Jesus are capitalized throughout the
course. This also helps make clear, where verses are in the first person,
when it is God or Jesus speaking.

Teaching your child the Bible
One of the last things Jesus told His followers was to “Feed My
lambs.”1
The children God has entrusted to your care are His and your
little lambs, and they need a lot of “feeding” from His Word to develop
and become well rounded spiritually.
“The Word of God is living and powerful.”2
It is through God’s Word
that your children will learn the truth and form personal values
that will give them a solid foundation to stand on through all life’s
challenges.

5. You might be surprised at the differences in behavior that will soon
become apparent once you start teaching your children about the
Bible and showing them how to apply the principles in God’s Word
to their little lives. Help your children realize that they make Jesus
happy when they read His Words and obey them. If they do something
unloving, for example, you can remind them, “Jesus wants us to be
loving. Remember what He said?—‘Love one another.’” Then, “What
can you do now to be more loving to so-and-so and make things
right?” Or if they are worried or afraid, you can remind them: “God is
taking care of you, and we’re praying, so you don’t have to be afraid.
Remember, God said, ‘Fear not, for I am with you.’” You will no doubt
find many opportunities to bring these basic verses to life.
In this guide for parents, you’ll find inspiration from the Bible about
the good results of teaching your children the Bible, as well as helpful
tips on how to teach children to memorize scriptures. Also included in
this booklet is a list of the verses in the booklets, as well as ideas of
games you can play with your children to reinforce the Bible verses in
this series. Have fun!

6. The Bible on teaching children God’s Word
(Some of these verses specifically refer to memorizing the scriptures.
Scripture memorization can play an important part in a child’s spiritual
development.)
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 And these words [of God] which I command you
today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your
children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you
walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
2 Timothy 3:15 From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures,
which are able to make you wise [unto] salvation through faith which
is in Christ Jesus.
Luke 18:16 Let the little children come to Me … for of such is the
kingdom of God.
Proverbs 4:4 Let your heart retain my words; keep my commands,
and live.
3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in
truth.
5

7. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he
is old he will not depart from it.
Isaiah 38:19 The father shall make known Your truth to the children.
Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great
shall be the peace of your children.
Leading your child to Jesus
One of the most important things you can do to give your children
a good foundation in life is to help them establish a personal
relationship with God, through Jesus. Children need to know that
they are special to God. They need to learn that no matter what, Jesus
loves them and will always be there for them. When your children
are young, it is very easy to lead them to receive Jesus as their
Savior. Once they have Jesus, they will learn to love and more easily
understand His Words that they read and memorize.
Children can pray and receive God’s gift of eternal salvation, through
asking Jesus to come into their hearts, at an early age. You can hardly
6
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 6 8/15/2002, 11:26:25 AM
8. find anybody more sincere or believing than a small child. That’s why
Jesus said we must become as little children to go to Heaven.1
As
soon as they are old enough to pray the simplest of prayers, they are
old enough to receive Jesus.
As soon as you have taught your child who Jesus is (children’s picture
Bibles are great for this), you can explain: “Jesus wants to come and
live in your heart. He loves you very much, and He wants to be your
best friend and stay with you always. If you ask Him to, He will come
and live in your heart. Then He will never ever leave you! Do you
want Jesus to come into your heart?”
You can then pray a simple prayer that your child can repeat after
you, best he or she can. Even if your child is very young and can only
manage to say the last word or two from each phrase, that’s enough
for Jesus because it’s the heart that counts. Simply pray: “Dear Jesus,
please come into my heart. I believe in You and want to love You like
You love me. Please forgive my sins, and give me Your gift of eternal
life. Amen.”—And Jesus will come in; your child will be eternally
saved. That is God’s promise.2

9. The preceding prayer appears at the back of each Feed My Lambs
verse booklet, so that your children, if they are old enough, can read
along when you pray it with them.
Older children may need a fuller explanation of salvation, like the
following:
“We all have weaknesses and are not perfect, and sometimes we do
wrong things that separate us from God. But God loves us so much
that He wants to forgive us and help us change. He has worked a great
miracle—a plan to save us—and He made it so simple that anyone
can be saved. All you need to do is receive Jesus into your heart.
When Jesus comes into your life, He will help you right now, and He
will also give you eternal life forever in Heaven. Salvation is a great
gift from God to all those who love and believe in Jesus. God wants
everyone to be saved, but He gives everyone the freedom of choice.
Each of us must decide personally if we will accept Jesus and His gift
of eternal life.”
It’s a wonderful experience for parents to be able to share in their
child’s discovery of Jesus and His salvation.

10. The benefits of memorizing as a child
In addition to reading Bible stories and passages with your children,
another aspect of teaching them God’s Word is helping them commit
important Bible verses to memory. Knowing God’s Word gives us a
better understanding of the Lord and His ways, and memorizing His
promises helps us grow in faith and know where to find comfort and
answers in difficult times.
The Bible tells us that we memorize the Word so that we will please
God and avoid doing things that will hurt others. “Your Word I have
hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” 1
It’s easy for little children to commit Bible verses to memory, especially
if you teach them in a fun way.
➽ The older we are, the more wisdom we acquire; but the younger
we are, the easier it is to take in and store facts.

11. ➽ The human brain is so constructed that during the first six years of
life it takes in data at an astonishing rate. And not only is that so, but
this data literally expands the brain. Thereafter, learning data becomes
more difficult.
➽ Your child may learn information many times faster than you can,
and may also remember the information longer.
➽ You can help your child retain the information for years to come
by reviewing it and using it in new ways.
➽ There is hardly anything that you can’t teach your child.
How to use Feed My Lambs as a memorization
course
➽ Some verses are easier to memorize than others, especially for very
young children or children who are memorizing for the first time. In
this guide for parents we’ve included lists of the verses grouped into
two levels, according to the degree of difficulty in memorization. You
may want to first teach your child all the “Level 1” verses, and then go
10
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 10 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
12. through the books a second time to teach the more challenging verses
in “Level 2.” Each verse in the Feed My Lambs course is also marked
with a colored dot to indicate which level it belongs to:
Level 1 (Green)
Level 2 (Orange)
(For additional memory verses for older children, once they have
learned the Feed My Lambs verses, we recommend Key Bible Verses,
also from Aurora Production.)
➽ The Feed My Lambs course includes a chart to record your child’s
memorization progress. There is also a spot on each verse page in the
booklets for your child to place a reward sticker after having learned
that verse. A set of stickers is included with this course.
(If you are not using this series as a memorization course, you could
use these stickers in some other form, as you choose, to encourage
your children as they learn and apply God’s Word.)

13. Tried and proven memorization tips from parents
and teachers
How to start
➽ If memory work is new to you and your children, start by trying
to memorize one verse every two or three days. Once you become
accustomed to doing memory work, you will probably be able to
memorize a verse a day.
➽ Try reading the memory verse for the day while your children are
eating breakfast. Discuss it briefly to be sure they understand what it
means and how it applies to their lives. Repeat it a few times. Review
it before the children go to bed.
➽ Keep things moving at a fairly rapid pace. Children actually absorb
things much better that way.
➽ It’s helpful to have a set time and place daily to work on
memorization.
➽ Get your child’s full attention. Minimize distractions.
➽ Be relaxed.
12
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 12 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
14. ➽ Make it fun.
➽ Keep it short and well within the child’s attention span. Stop before
your child becomes bored.
➽ Try different inflections in your voice to emphasize the meaning
and key words. Quoting or reading each verse with the same inflection
and rhythm each time will help your child learn quicker.
➽ Say the reference of the new verse, then say the verse itself and
give a simple explanation.
➽ On longer verses, go over the verse first in parts, and then put it all
together.
➽ Encourage the child to first listen carefully to the verse, or part of
the verse, and then repeat it. Quoting along from the very start often
hinders children from getting the words exactly right, and once they
say it wrong it becomes more difficult to say it right.
➽ Say it together a couple of times, and then have the child say it
alone.
➽ Encourage your child to speak loudly and clearly, and to put
expression into it! Show enthusiasm by your example.
13
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 13 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
15. ➽ Be flexible. If one method isn’t working, change to another.
➽ Remember: Repetition is the law of memory!
Using music and drama
➽ Children learn by doing. They like to actively participate in the
things they are learning.
➽ Putting verses to song is a fun and easy way to learn Scripture.
This can be done by using simple tunes that the children are already
familiar with, such as nursery rhymes like “Mary Had a Little Lamb,”
“Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” “Here We Go ’Round the Mulberry
Bush,” “Row Your Boat,” etc.
➽ It can be helpful to say the verse to a certain rhythm. For example,
clap out the rhythm or march in a circle while quoting the verse.
➽ Act out the verse to help your child understand and recall it. Have
your child mimic you. Young children may initially have difficulty
speaking and acting simultaneously, but once they catch on, they love
it.
Rewards
➽ Incentives encourage the children to learn and review their verses.
14
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 14 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
16. ➽ Rewards don’t have to be big—just a fun acknowledgment of the
progress your child has made. For example, you can give your child a
sticker for each verse learned, a bigger prize for finishing each booklet,
and something even more special for finishing the course.
➽ To keep your child inspired and making progress, you’ll probably
want to vary the incentive from time to time.
Review
Once children have begun memorizing Bible verses, unless they
review them they will soon forget them. Here are a few pointers
to help make your review time fun. If memory and review become
tedious and work-like, there is less chance your child will want to
keep it up.
➽ Get your child in the habit of reviewing at least a few verses daily.
➽ Reviewing a verse several times a day for the first week, once or
twice a week for the next month, and then once or twice a month for
several months works well for most children (adults too).
➽ Have your children’s verses easily available for quick review
whenever you and they have a few spare moments: when you’re
getting them dressed or ready for bed, waiting for a meal or TV show,
15
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 15 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
17. waiting in the dentist’s office, riding on a bus, etc. Teach your older
children to use spare moments to review, even when you’re not there.
➽ Read your children’s memory verses onto an audio cassette
and play it at naptime, bedtime, etc. (New verses can be added
daily or weekly, and older children can learn to make review tapes
themselves.)
➽ Make a chart to help review systematically and to keep track of
when your child last reviewed each verse or group of verses. Daily
work your way down the list of verses your children have memorized.
When your children have successfully reviewed a verse or passage, put
a sticker or checkmark on the chart.
➽ If you find that your child is forgetting verses, stop teaching new
verses for a few days or a week and concentrate on review.
➽ For a change of routine, try learning new verses for the first three
weeks of a month, and use the fourth week for review of that month’s
and previous memory work.
➽ It’s better to spend just a minute or two reviewing verses often,
than it is to do it for long periods less frequently.
16
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 16 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
18. A personal experience
Pointers contributed by a young woman who was caring for a twoyear-
old:
My little girl is only two and a half years old, so the times we spend
on memory work are not very long. She enjoys it so much more
when it doesn’t drag on. When teaching her a new verse, I try to get
her full attention. Usually I sit her on my lap facing me, to minimize
distractions. We put down any toys, turn off the tape recorder or
TV, etc. Then I tell her the new verse, which usually needs some
explanation. A joyful attitude in memorizing the Word is vital. I usually
say the verse twice. If it’s long, we go over it in parts and I encourage
her to say each part after me. I like for her to first listen to a part of
it, then repeat it, instead of her trying to say it along with me, which
often hinders her getting it right. Since she is so active, I often hold her
hands and get her to look at me while saying the verse. We end with a
kiss and a cuddle, and off she goes with a new verse in her heart and
on her mind.
As with other stories or poems, I find it helpful to speak high or low
or louder to accentuate different words. This helps bring out the
17
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 17 8/15/2002, 11:26:26 AM
19. meaning of the verse and makes it easier to understand. Sometimes
we march around in a circle while quoting the verse. If the verse talks
about something we approve of, we nod our head, or if it mentions
something we disapprove of, we shake our head or shake a finger.
We point to our heart or point upward when it talks about Jesus or
Heaven or God. All those little actions help her understand the verse
and remember it.
Putting verses to song is one of the most fun and easy ways to learn
Scriptures. This is most easily done by using simple tunes the children
are already familiar with; for example, Matthew 7:7 to the tune of “Old
MacDonald Had a Farm”:
Ask and it will be given to you;
Seek and you will find.
18
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 18 8/15/2002, 11:26:27 AM
20. Memory and review game ideas
To make reviewing memory verses fun!
(Some of these games require a bit of preparation. Others can be played
with very little prep and the simplest of props, and some require none at
all. Some are designed for groups, and some are for a single child with
a parent or teacher. Some of these games can be enjoyed whether the
children have memorized Bible verses or not; others will only work if
they have memorized at least some verses.)
For children up to six years old:
Musical Review Chairs
As the name suggests, this is a variation of Musical Chairs. Arrange
chairs back-to-back in the center of the room, with one less chair than
the number of players. Play a music tape or CD, and then turn it off or
pause it unexpectedly. The instant the music stops, everyone tries to sit
down. The child that is left standing quotes a verse or two. Repeat as
many times as you like.
Picture Code
Take turns illustrating different verses (or key words from the verses)
19
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 19 8/15/2002, 11:26:27 AM
21. with pictures or symbols on a chalkboard, whiteboard, or piece of
paper. The others try to guess the verse.
Association Game
Say a word (e.g., “fruit”) and have the children quote as many verses
as they can that are related in some way to that word. You can also
write the words on cards and have the children take turns drawing one
“key word” card from the stack.
Red Light, Green Light
The leader stands some distance in front of the children, facing
them. When the leader turns his or her back to the children and says
“green light,” the children creep forward. When the leader says “red
light!” and turns around suddenly, the children must freeze in place.
If someone is caught moving, he has to go back to the starting line
unless he can quote a verse on a topic given by the leader. The first
child to reach the leader is the winner and becomes the next leader.
Put It Together
Write the children’s memory verse for the day (or review verses) on
a strip of stiff paper. Write fairly large, using a felt pen. Then cut the
20
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 20 8/15/2002, 11:26:27 AM
22. written out verse into a number of short phrases. Put the pieces in an
envelope and write the verse reference on the envelope. The children
will enjoy piecing their verse back together. If you have more than one
child, each could be given an envelope and see who can put his or her
verse together the fastest.
For children six years or older:
Boxing
Make rows of dots on a piece of paper, spaced so that when all the
dots are connected horizontally and vertically, it forms squares (e.g.,
4 rows of 4 dots will make a grid of 9 squares; 6 rows of 6 dots will
make 25 squares; 8 rows of 8 dots will make 49 squares, etc.). The
object of the game is to form boxes. The first player connects any 2
dots with a straight line, vertically or horizontally. No diagonal lines are
permitted. Then the second player connects any 2 dots. The players
take turns connecting dots, trying to avoid forming the third side of a
box, since that will give the other player a chance to draw the fourth
side and complete a box. When a player completes a box, the other
player gets to quiz him on a verse. If the first player quotes it correctly,
he puts his initial in the box. If he can’t quote the verse, he quizzes
the other player on the same verse. If the other player quotes it
21
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 21 8/15/2002, 11:26:27 AM
23. correctly, he puts his initial in the box. If neither player can quote the
verse correctly, the square is filled in and no one gets it. Whenever a
player makes a box and successfully quotes the verse, he gets to draw
another line. His turn ends when he fails to close in a box or can’t
quote the verse he is asked. When the grid is completed, the player
with the most squares wins the game.
Pick-Up Sticks Verses
Print the references of recent memory verses on drinking straws (or
pick-up sticks). The first player drops all the straws in a pile. If he can
pick up a straw without moving other straws, he tries to quote the
verse written on that straw. The player keeps on picking up straws
until he moves other straws. Then the next player takes a turn. A
player scores one point for each straw he picks up, and two more
points for each Bible verse he quotes correctly.
Memory Bee
This game is like an old-fashioned spelling bee, with a few variations.
Say the reference and see who can quote the verse. Or ask each
contestant in turn to quote a verse on a certain topic, such as salvation,
healing, trusting God in time of trouble, etc. Or pose situational
questions such as, “A poor family needs money for food. What verse
22
FML_ParentTeachers_E.indd 22 8/15/2002, 11:26:27 AM
24. could they claim?” All three versions of the Memory Bee can also
be played by a parent or teacher and a single child who take turns
quizzing each other.
Q and A Time
One person plays the role of someone who needs an answer to a
question or problem, and asks the others questions that they are only
allowed to answer with a Bible verse. Some examples are,
Q: “What do I have to do to be saved?” (A: Acts 16:31);
Q: “Am I a sinner?” (A: Romans 3:23);
Q: “How do we get faith?” (A: Romans 10:17);
Q: “What is truth?” (A: John 17:17).
(Note: In many verse review games, it is better to emphasize
accuracy over speed. It can also be counterproductive to put too
much emphasis on competition. Children are quite different in their
memorizing capabilities. Some children memorize and recite very
quickly, whereas another child may take longer but give the verse
more serious thought.)
