- 5. CA ST RPC, Rule 2-200 This rule guides lawyers and law firms compensation methods with other lawyers. (A) Prohibits sharing a fee with a lawyer who is not a direct colleague with the exceptions of (1) with informed consent of the client and (2) if the sharing does not result in unfair fees. (B) Prohibits giving anything of value as incentive to gain employment except as allowed (by 2-300) in the instance of selling a lawyers practice or law firm.
