The document provides an overview of international development assistance budgets and terminology. It defines Official Development Assistance (ODA) and compares it to the International Assistance Envelope (IAE). It summarizes Canada's 2012 federal budget, which cuts $1.2 billion from international aid between 2011-2016. The budget disproportionately impacts the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and International Development Research Centre (IDRC). It also analyzes the cuts to specific countries, most of which are in the bottom quarter of the Human Development Index and in Africa.
Key features of draft regulations on governance of ps es.Hammad Siddiqui
The document discusses corporate governance issues in public sector entities (PSEs) in Pakistan and proposes reforms. It notes that PSEs suffer major losses annually due to poor governance, corruption and inefficiencies. A draft regulation on PSE governance by SECP includes establishing independent boards, separation of CEO/Chairman roles, related party transaction rules, and policies on conflicts of interest and anti-corruption. The document recommends finalizing these regulations and enforcing them for PSEs, along with using "fit and proper" criteria for director/CEO appointments. A long-term reform is a standalone law for SOEs with an appropriate governance structure.
Putting Partnership back at the Heart of Developmentgennifercollins
The document summarizes the findings of a survey of 158 Canadian civil society organizations regarding their experience with Partnerships with Canadians Branch's (PWCB) new call-for-proposal funding mechanism. Key findings include: 1) Over 70% of respondents applied to calls but success rates were low, negatively impacting organizations; 2) The process reduced credibility, required changing priorities and partnerships, and cost significant resources; 3) Losing CIDA funding jeopardizes organizations' work and development results. Recommendations focus on improving transparency, engagement, responsiveness and inclusiveness in the funding process.
Exploring Public Engagement Effectiveness in Canadagennifercollins
The Inter-Council Network (ICN), consisting of seven provincial and regional councils for international cooperation across Canada, is presenting its 2011-2014 public engagement program exploring public engagement effectiveness in Canada. The program includes conducting a context analysis, national public opinion poll, annotated bibliography and literature review, knowledge hubs, and developing a public engagement toolkit. The goals are to better understand public engagement in Canada and demonstrate its importance while fostering collaboration.
This document discusses the need for more ethical practices in the fashion industry supply chain. It notes that over 2 billion people live on less than $2 per day and are involved in the production of clothes through jobs like cotton picking and garment manufacturing. However, many face issues like child labor, low pay, lack of rights, and unsafe conditions. The document proposes several solutions like supporting fair trade, union-made, and eco-friendly fashion to improve conditions for workers. It encourages consumers to ask questions about how and where products are made when shopping.
This document summarizes an interview study conducted by two organizations on the state of international cooperation and NGOs in Canada in fall 2012. Key findings include:
1) Most NGOs reported their situation as average or poor due to reduced funding. This has led to cuts in programs and increased workloads.
2) NGO projections for the future were mostly neutral or negative regarding future funding and program opportunities.
3) Relationships with major donors like CIDA were reported as positive or neutral, but NGOs plan to diversify funding sources.
4) The document outlines AQOCI's proposed short, medium and long term courses of action to address challenges facing international cooperation and development

The document discusses the issues with global tax havens and their costs. It notes that the global tax haven industry is huge and hurts economic growth and development. Trillions of dollars are missing from countries' tax bases and held in havens, growing transnational corporate abuses. Solutions require transparency, ending tax and rule competition between countries, and addressing the roles of professionals and institutions that enable tax haven abuse.

Analysis of aid flows and aid effectiveness in the Central African Republic i...hdptcar
Over the last two years, humanitarian assistance has made a decisive contribution to the stabilization the Central African Republic while the country’s condition was at its most critical. Back from the brink of collapse, the benefits of peace and stability now would have to be spread much wider throughout this desperately poor country, if the patient were to recover successfully. However, while humanitarian assistance is levelling off and may well decrease in 2009, development support is still lacking too far behind to pick up the thread. The looming recovery gap now jeopardizes CAR’s fragile progress, as data from the country’s new aid management system shows.
The document discusses the economic outlook for South Florida and the implications for local businesses from 2011-2012. It notes that while the US and global economies are expected to see moderate growth, the recovery will be slow and below potential levels. The document identifies several industries and business opportunities in South Florida that may see growth during this "new normal" period of slower economic activity, such as exports, trade financing, and professional services.
GE reported preliminary results for its first quarter of 2009. The global economic downturn continued, but GE is navigating through the recession by aggressively cutting costs, driving orders where possible, and maintaining a solid industrial cash flow. Earnings were consistent with previous guidance, with the infrastructure and media businesses flat and the Capital Finance segment reporting a profit of $1.1 billion. GE remains focused on running the company for the long term through investing in growth areas.
The document compares key economic and development indicators for Italy, South Korea, the Philippines, and Nigeria. It discusses measures like GDP, GDP per capita, the Human Development Index (HDI), Gender Development Index (GDI), Human Poverty Index (HPI), and Gini coefficient. Italy has the highest HDI and GDP/capita, while Nigeria has the lowest for most indicators, reflecting differences between highly developed, medium developed, and low developed economies. South Korea has achieved high development as an "Asian Tiger." Inequalities exist within and between countries according to the GDI, HPI, and Gini coefficient.
The document provides a mid-year update to Franklin, MA's five year financial outlook. Key points include:
- State aid outlook has deteriorated, with an expected $1.7M reduction in FY2011 and ongoing risks.
- The forecasted deficit is minimally changed from $4.7M to $8.3M over five years.
- Franklin remains heavily dependent on state aid and has below average property taxes and school/municipal spending compared to peers.
- The structural deficit is expected to continue due to annual revenue growth being insufficient to maintain existing services.
The Economic Survey projects India's GDP growth to increase to 7.6% in 2012-13 and 8.6% in 2013-14, however these projections are considered ambitious. Fiscal consolidation is seen as key to achieving this level of growth. Industrial output growth remains a concern, with only a marginal recovery seen and doubts about sustainability. While exports are slowing, the global situation remains difficult and could lead to increased protectionism. Overhauling FDI policy by addressing sectoral issues is recommended to boost growth.
- Kellogg reported third quarter 2012 net sales of $3.72 billion, up 12.3% year-over-year. Internal growth was 2.8%.
- North America sales increased due to strong performance in snacks and specialty channels. Morning Foods & Kashi grew internally 5.4% due to cereal and Pop-Tarts.
- Europe sales trends improved sequentially. Latin America declined due to inventory reductions but Asia Pacific grew.
- Operating profit was $479 million, up 3.2% year-over-year due to commodity inflation and recall costs. Integration of Pringles is proceeding as expected.
BBVA presented at the 2016 Yankee Bank Conference on their capital and funding position. Some key points included:
- BBVA has a geographically diversified business model with leading positions across its core markets in Mexico, Spain, Turkey, and South America.
- The bank has demonstrated resilient earnings throughout periods of crisis and stress. BBVA was the only bank projected to remain profitable in adverse economic scenarios from 2016-2018 based on EBA stress tests.
- Solid risk management is a core strength, with improving non-performing loan ratios and coverage ratios.
- BBVA maintains a sound capital and liquidity position with capital ratios well above minimum requirements. The bank is on track to achieve its C
HSBC reported full year 2020 results. While profits were down 34% to $8.8 billion due to higher credit losses and lower revenue driven by the pandemic, the bank had a strong balance sheet. Cost savings of $1 billion were achieved through cost reduction programs. Looking forward, the bank is focused on executing its strategy of driving growth in Asia, pivoting to wealth management, and digital business services.
This document analyzes how CAADP implementation has contributed to agricultural and economic growth in Africa. It finds that countries that signed CAADP compacts earlier, by 2009 or 2011, have achieved the fastest progress toward CAADP targets of 10% agricultural expenditure and 6% agricultural GDP growth. These countries also experienced more rapid income growth and poverty reduction between 2003-2014 compared to later compact signers or non-signers. However, results varied year-to-year, showing challenges in sustaining commitments over time. The author concludes CAADP has likely helped growth and poverty reduction in longer-implementing countries but that more detailed analysis is still needed.
The document provides an overview of Emerson's financial performance and outlook. It summarizes that Emerson has a history of solid financial performance and plans to outperform the market in the challenging economic environment. It forecasts sales to decline 5-8% in 2009 but operating margins to remain strong at 15.9-16.4%. Free cash flow is expected to reach $2.7-2.5 billion, or 11-11.5% of sales.
OECD and the Black Sea region: Promoting private sector development and job c...blackseaforum
The document discusses the OECD's work with the Black Sea region to promote private sector development and job creation. It notes that while the region experienced high growth prior to the global financial crisis, the crisis significantly impacted the region due to structural vulnerabilities and exposure to international trade shocks. Unemployment rose and foreign financing declined sharply. The short term economic outlook remains uncertain. Priority actions discussed include improving social policies and indicators, diversifying trade, and unleashing the economic potential of the region through structural reforms focused on social development, the environment, and the private sector.

The document discusses:
1) Greece and the limits of austerity, noting that austerity has negatively impacted growth and fiscal multipliers were underestimated.
2) The EU roadmap, which outlines reforms to fiscal governance including the Six-Pack, Two-Pack, fiscal compact, single supervisory mechanism, and recovery and resolution framework.
3) The mechanics of contagion between sovereign and bank debt and how austerity can become a self-fulfilling prophecy if it severely contracts the economy. Reform efforts still face challenges in completing the EU's institutional framework.

This document discusses strategies for strengthening domestic resource mobilization and leveraging public expenditures in Ghana to finance development goals. It notes that 50-80% of resources needed to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals must come from domestic sources. Key points include: increasing Ghana's tax-to-GDP ratio through improved tax policies and administration; leveraging technology to reduce illicit financial flows; controlling public expenditures by prioritizing effective allocation of resources and reducing inefficiencies from issues like limited capacity, special interests, and corruption. The realization of development goals requires not just funding but also global changes in mindsets, approaches, and accountability.

- EPS grew 44% for the quarter to $0.88, but comparable EPS fell 9% to $0.92 due to currency impacts. Productivity initiatives remain on track to achieve $500M in annual savings by 2011.

13. Institutional Impacts
•CIDA will get disproportionately hit (relative
to its share of the IAE).
•IDRC cuts are proportional to their IAE
share, but hit their actual budget the hardest
•The cuts to DFAIT are in proportion to their
share of the IAE and the size of their budget.
•Finance Canada (which provided $384
million to the World Bank in 2010-11) is
untouched by the cuts in the IAE.
