Goal:
Create a presence in fortune cookies reminding customers to play the Lottery with a set of lucky
numbers and motivating fortunes.
Solution:
• 1 million fortune cookies distributed to Chinese restaurant patrons in 4 major cities within
Missouri during a 1 month campaign starting 11/24/2014.
• The front of the slips within fortune cookies include witty, comical and motivational
messages/fortunes while the back had the Missouri Lottery logo, slogan and random lucky
numbers.
• Lottery winners are known to be superstitious. When given a set of numbers (just like in
fortune cookies) they believe it is a sign and should be played.

• 1,000,000 Chinese restaurant patrons received branded fortune cookies while dining at a
Chinese restaurant or ordering take-out.
• 56% increase in winners across all 4 cities in December vs November.
• 1,210+ unique tweets, 423+ instagram posts, 75+ facebook posts, 10+ reddit posts with
dozens of comments, multiple foursquare and general forum posts generating over 5,000,000
impressions.
• One reddit post with a picture of the MO Lottery fortune cookie slip received over 175,000
views within 72 hours.
• News channel KCTV5 featured details of the campaign during the morning and evening prime
time news with over 150,000 views.
• Coverage of the MO Lottery fortune cookie campaign reached 7 in-state media outlets + 5
blogs.
