This document discusses mainstreaming media in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. It notes that unlike the rest of Pakistan, FATA lacks an independent media regulatory framework. As a result, FATA residents do not have the same rights to freedom of expression and access to information as guaranteed by the Pakistani constitution. The document examines the current state of media in FATA, which is limited to 3 state-run radio stations. It recommends introducing private electronic media like FM radio and TV in FATA and extending the jurisdiction of Pakistan's media regulatory body PEMRA to regulate media in the region. This would help enlarge the media space and guarantee FATA residents their full constitutional rights.
