2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. 19800 feet I have 4,500 acres of land Acre=43,560square feet I have a total of 1960,20,000 feet in my land Each side is 19,800 feet and the hypotenuse of my land is 28,001.4 feet y=x+19,800 is the equation of my land in y form -x+y=19,800 is the equation of my land in standard form 19800 feet 4500 acres 28001.4 feet Total area of land in feet and sides of the land in feet The equations of my land in y form and standard form
2. 1000x+3000y<or equal to 9,000,000 I own 4,500 acres. The bank lends out $2,000 per acre. So the total debt the bank will let me take $9,000,000. Cotton cost $1,000, Pistachios cost $3,000. Cotton=x. Pistachios=y. Total debt possible and equation of debt possible
3. The fertilizer supplier will only supply you with 340 units per acre. The total units of fertilizer I will receive is 1,530,000 because 4,500 X 340= 1,530,000. The water district will only supply you with 1.7 acre-feet of water per acre. The total acre-feet of water i will receive is 7,650 because 4,500 X 1.7= 7,650 Cotton acre needs: 300 units of fertilizer and 1 acre-feet of water. Pistachios acre needs:400 units of fertilizer and 2 acre-feet of water. So the inequality of the fertilizer for 4,500 acres is: 300x+400y= 1,530,000 So the inequality of the water for 4,500 acres is: 2x+y=7,650 The equations of water and fertilizer needed for my land
4. The equations for my max profit x+3y=9,000 is the equation of the total land possible. 3x+4y=15,300 is the equation for total acres that can be fertilized. 2x+y=7,650 total acres that can be watered. y=2,700 is the equation for total acres of pistachios possible to plant. x=3,600 is the equation for the total acres of cotton that can be grown. x+y=4,500 is the equation of the total land I own. y=x+19,800 is the equation of my land. boundaries. x-y=-198,000 is the equation of the standard form of my land.
5. My profit equation Cotton cost $1,000 and makes $1,500, profit per acre=$500. Pistachios cost $3,000 and makes $4,000, profit per acre=$1,000. 500x+1000y= total profit
6. My max profit possible My max profit is 1,980 cotton acres and 2,340 pistachio acres. My total profit possible is $3,300,000. I used (x+3y=9,000) and (3x+4y=15,300). (x+3y=9,000) is the equation of total possible money I can use. (3x+4y=15,300) is the equation of total possible fertilizer I can use.
7. Total herbicide that I will need. I need .38 gallons per acre. I’m using 4,320 acres. I need 1,642 gallons of herbicide. I have a 54% herbicide solution and a 12% herbicide solution. I need 1642 gallons of 36% herbicide solution. I need 703 12% gallons mixed with 939 54% gallons to get what I need.
8. Pruning the pistachios trees A three man crew prunes 1 1/30 trees a minute. I need 318,240 trees cut in a time frame of 12,960 minutes. I will need approximately 24 crews.
