This study examined the role of women in village fisheries along the Sekong River in southern Laos. It found that while women make up over half of subsistence fishers, they are rarely included in village fishery management committees. Through focus groups and workshops with local communities, the study explored the factors preventing women's participation and how village committees have impacted women and children. It concluded that cultural biases in Laos impede women's involvement in decision-making and that gender-sensitive training is needed to improve outcomes for fishery resilience by engaging more women.
